wow is like having best of both worlds if i took the toyota hahaha but the ahpek look of it when u drive makes u oso become ahpek... -_-

===========

hahaha. The old rear wheel drive starlet lagi ugly but when u eat Alfas like having breakfast, u wil ustand why they had so much respect. [laugh]

Actually the Corolla is not a bad looking car if u know how to do it up nicely.

But I recommend u get a 1.6lit COE older car cos the bigger engine wil mean its was stressed less during its earlier life & wil give u decent performance & reliability.

doesnt matter, as long as the chassis is good,

buy the corolla and drop in a 4AGE

or buy the civic and drop in a B18/B20

==============

Ah Civic was another car that cud do transplant without anyone knowing by looking only.

Buy the 1.3 & drop in the 1.6 for better power. Then u can start to mod bit by bit till u have a monster. :wub:

But I do think by now most of these older cars will have a weak chassis/body so b careful when u buy as the body might not b able to handle the power.

oh btw whats the diff between the Corolla 1.6M and 1.3M ?

=============

Engine bigger in the 1.6 & maybe some specs higher. But if u just want a day to day driving car, just look for 1 in very good condition is more important.

Important to check throughly for rust & accident damage in these older cars. Check body panels for wavy sides or uneven shunt lines wil b a good clue.

My first and previous car was the corolla G6, 1.3M, 2E carburator engine. Gave me good FC averaging 12km/l considering that it was rather high mileage already. Cars of those years were built rather low hence cornering was quite satisfactory. [drivingcar]

These were the last of the "over engineered" Jap cars we can find.

My Corona CD was 1 good example. It was 19 years old when I sadly sold it & was in very good condition. Engine & body. Everything worked well. Parts were easily avaliable from scrap yards & so cheap & good Japan quality. [thumbsup]

good stuff. i guess only the older manual cars can tahan so long. it is quite unlikely that newer cars with all the eletronics can tahan so long.

===============

My 10 yo Corona CD was an auto.

Only prob I had was the reverse kept taking longer & longer to engage when engine was cold when it was 15 years old. I had it overhauled for $2K & it was just like new after that.

On hind-sight, I sud have just bought a 2nd hand autobox for abt $300 & it wud b just as good if not better.

is it illegal to do engine swap in singapore ?

===============

Well almost everything is "illegal" in SG but just do it smartly & u wont get caught.

Drop in a good engine & gearbox but dont go racing all over the place & attract attention from TP.

Just enjoy the smooth powerful "new" engine at such a bargain price is enough.

Remember to get the numbering done by the experts & not the ws who try to make the few hundred themselves & end up giving the game away with their lousy "skills".

Same goes for my 1991 Swift.

bro, the answer is quite obvious.

engine swap is not illegal IF your machnic can prove to LTA than this older model engine is not in production nor is available in spareparts shop.

Once this is proven to LTA they will approve the swap with condition like =

hv to show LTA the engine blue print and invoice. after swopping hv to pass LTA inspection.

Details is in LTA web

i dont mind taking dat Corolla with 4AGE engine in it but is just a normal engine ...

Engine swap for this model can be done easily in JB. I know of one there with a Blacktop 20V 4AGE conversion, running a quad-throttle set-up [thumbsup]

But if you're concerned about the shape of the car, think the civic has rather a timeless silhouette. Tastefully done up, it can look bang up to date. And with the correct mods (re-conditioned B16A), this car has the potential to GO too! [drivingcar]

Happy Hunting!
