5w30 vs 5w40

So if i want to try Motul V300 engine oil, do i go for w30 or w40?

 

Nope, Motul 300v doesn't meet VW 504 spec. Only MOTUL Specific 50400 507 00 oil then can use.

I am frequent visitor to Germany and also like to visit their auto parts store. w30 weight oil can be found easily on their store for those popular brand in Germany. eg. Liquid Molly, Castrol,

If they don't use it, then why sell in the store??

We are discussing on Oils for '2L turbo Scirocco'

If you want to refer to oils in the store that are for the whole range of cars, i am sure you can find w20 and w50 as well.

try putting w20 oils in la, since they sell in the store.

 

Oils are also dependent on the operating climate, so please compare apple to apple.

Nothing will go wrong, its safer to use a higher weight oil.

Downside is FC would be higher compared to w30 oils but not really drastic increase la.

 

Seen too many turbocharged cars failing because they use oil that is too thin.

As i have said, normal driving would not be an issue.

Only when you push the car all the way, the headaches come.

I doubt you bought the 2L turbo to drive sedately right ?

 

There are also rare cases whereby w40 oils give problems, end up they use w50 oils.

But those are modified cars la.

No, you must use a low SAP engine oil, gotta do with the sensitive nature of the catalytic convertor.

 

- Might cause inefficient exhaust gas treatment thus more pollutant, no harm to engine.

- Worst case scenario, damage catalytic convertor only, no harm to engine. Give you an excuse for a high flow cat upgrade.

Out of so many brand, maybe you can find these 3(Red) below, you say easier to find or not.

 

But as what FCW75 said, you still can find Liqui Moly Top Tec 4200 SAE 5W-30 that's meet VW 504 at Forklift Enterprise, so it's still not so bad.

i am going to send my ride for servicing. should i be using 5w30 or 5w40 engine oil. my milage is about 7.5K on the odometer. first servicing.

 

low mileage can use 30

high mileage should use 40, some recommend that 30k onwards use 40..

 

30 lighter, better for FC but less engine protection compare to 40, car / engine feels lighter

40 heavier, not so good on FC but better engine protection

I respectfully disagree.

 

In my opinion, 30k mileage use 40 engine oil is way too early. High mileage might be in the region of 75k or 80k mileage onwards.

It depends more on how you take care of the engine, if using good quality synthetic then 150-200k can be considered high mileage. but if using low quality oil then upon 70-80k the engine would look like a 150-200k engine.
