The victims were aged between 14 and 39 years old. The incidents took place over the past few months with the latest case being reported last Saturday. The male suspect was spotted by officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division on Monday. He had matched the description provided by the victims. The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest. Altivo 3rd Gear December 17, 2009 Share December 17, 2009 Police have arrested a 15 year-old youth who was believed to be involved in at least 12 cases of Outrage of Modesty involving female victims aged between 14 and 39 years old in the Sengkang housing estate area. In the past few months, with the latest case reported on 12 December 2009, a series of Outrage of Modesty cases were reported in the Sengkang housing estate area. In most of the cases, the victims were unable to provide a detailed description of the suspect as the assault came from behind and the shocked victims could only catch a glimpse of the suspect's back as he fled. As a preventive measure, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police proactively alerted the residents to the menace by disseminating crime alerts and crime prevention advisories via posters, letters and even SMS alerts. The message was also reinforced during MP block visits, Citizen On Patrol (COP - joint patrols), house visits and block parties where the community's help was also sought to be on the look-out for the serial molester. Notwithstanding that, the officers were not deterred by the lack of clear description of the suspect. Extensive ground enquiries were conducted and at the same time, based on the various accounts of the victims, the officers eventually pieced together a description of the suspect. All these efforts finally paid off on 14 December 09 when officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division spotted a male youth fitting the description of the suspect while on an ambush operation against the said suspect. The suspect was intercepted by the officers and was subsequently placed under arrest. Investigations are currently ongoing. Acting Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Superintendent Manimaran Pushpanatan, commended his officers for their perseverance and excellent investigative work which led to the arrest of the suspect. He also advised members of the public, especially the women, to adopt the following crime prevention measures: a) Avoid going home alone. If you have to, make arrangements to be accompanied by a family member or a trusted friend. b) Be alert of your surroundings. If you feel that you are being followed, stay calm.
