Watwheels Supersonic December 15, 2009 Share December 15, 2009 One thing I know for sure, when economy is not good, ppl are very free and very broke. A lot of rantings, comprains and whining will surface. When economy is doing well and ppl have lots to spend, everyone are too busy to do any of that, maybe perhaps comprain not enough time in a day. ↡ Advertisement
Sosaria Twincharged December 15, 2009 Share December 15, 2009 I also dont really care about the what policy the govt use to push out. But then when I have a family meaning kids, well it certainly concern me now since expense go up and money become more scared..Need to understand how those pro-family policy help or affect me like baby bonus, child care leave etc and lastly how those policy going to impact my kids...Obviously I don't want my kids to be born and breed and end of the days feeling been the lesser class of the society. Every parent will want the best for their off-springs Yes, the cost of having a family with kids is frightening indeed. This can't be denied. If you read the "Money" section in the Sunday Times every week, notice that most of the time the "money-ed" person being featured is a childless single, or a childless couple?? And they talk about how they make smart investments, blah blah... but I figure the reason they are rich is mainly because they can take greater risks as they don't have kids to think about, and they have more cash in hand and can work longer hours in higher-paying jobs because they are not 'weighed' down by children. Atonchia Supersonic December 15, 2009 Share December 15, 2009 (edited) You are not a baby boomer. More like an early prototype of Gen X. Baby Boomers were born in the late 40s and early 50s when the all the WW2 soldiers ORD'ed and went to their . This caused a boomz in the number of babies, hence baby boomer. If the timing is just right, grandpa = Baby Boomer, son = Gen X and grandson = Gen Y. Almost there, these are age groupings by marketers to target certain age group. The baby boomers were and still is the main market forces. They were born when the soldiers and young man went home after WWII and make many babies. Then there are those late baby boomers born between the 50s and 60s. They lead the Agogo style, the hyppies style during their teens. The US market boom in car industries coincides with their boom. They also push up the sales of the popular soft drinks, they grew up watching disney cartoons, rock & roll, beatles elvis era. Currently the biotech, healthcare and wellness market is targeted to them as they are still the ones with the fat wallets and wield the political power. Gen X are kids of Baby boomers from late 60s to late 70s or early 80s, different academic school of thought will have a slight different range but usually few years apart. grew up with the disco, breakdance, heavymetal till Transformer. Gen X proportion is still considered quite sizeable globally as we are the kids of baby boomers. At least same replacement number. Only in countries that has population planning policies that restrict or discourage the birthrate that has a low Gen X. Generation Y mainly kids of late baby boomers, from late teens to late 20s now. Well verse in IT/communications tools, very expose the latest tech. High Aspiration and ask for the sky. Gen Z are kids of Gen X and some older Gen Y. Fierce global competition facing them, high literacy rate. They should know no boundaries, they will be the leaders to push forward the new global village aka the new world order. Looking at humanity as a whole and not so much restricted by geographic, race and language limitations they are truly the generation that think and act globally and plan policies that can affect the human civilisation as a whole. These are the vision of the baby boomers, creating the political structure and climate now. Soon carbon can be trade when the Kyoto protocol has been fully ratified. We have another commodity to trade. Imagine that........a trade base on air OK back to SG, the lack of the Gen X due to the population policy planning are making us feel the heat now. If without the birth control measures we would be more accustomed to the squeeze rather than the importing them from other location born & bred there, Which brings about cultral and educational differences. We lose out in term of chinese standard to the chinese, the hindi or tamil standards to the indians, English standard does not matter much as they can pick up fast, accent is not a hinder. They come from a more competitive social environment as they are used to the squeeze due to population, though China also has the birth control measures they still have a sizeable Gen X, but 50 years on they will be like Japan with aging population problems. SG is trying to lure them over now and keep us healthy 50yrs on and hopefully beyond. We were taught to listen more than questioning the reasons why things are done such a way. We were told to keep quiet and do our things quietly since schooling days. Obey and obey, wait for instructions before taking action. We were raise to be workers rather than entrepreneurs, those who received less training in education system were more entrepreneurial We are more detached and individuallistic than want to contribute to the society. We also want to be less involve politically as this is not in our blood. We were trained to compete (but the real competition will come if the FT floodgates are really open up) and work and follow the instruction from the top, best not to ask too much question. Those who asked were thought to be trouble makers and not productive. We were trained and programmed to be followers. So we become disillusioned when we cannot make our voices heard. We do not want to change our way of lives to contribute to the social needs. We have seen that if we tread a wrong footing we can be bankrupt and jailed. This is the propagation of fear. We have not seen truly passionate and charismatic leaders in our generation (incidentally that's a good thing to the top) that can be the means to make ourselves heard. But luckily working in private sectors and exposure due to travelling have allow many to be infuse the ability to think, rather than just shut up and listen. Gearoil 1st Gear December 16, 2009 Share December 16, 2009 Had a chat with a friend recently, his wife just gave birth to a girl and being a father-to-be soon myself, I tried to engage him to discuss more about his future plans for his daughter. His reply was pretty short and simple..."My next plan for my family will be an XYZ country address, this place doesn't hold much for me anymore". His reply is quite typical for my generation or rather group of friends who are educated middle class folks stuck in the bracket with no way up the ladder but instead trying our best not to slip down the ranks. Unlike some folks who are very well informed with regards to national policies, we usually skip the politics/national building part of the news. Those are good to know...but not need to know. While we can see the rationale for foreign talent policies, we have no opinions on them...not because we can't form our own objective judgement but rather simply because we do not care. I always read with some level of amusements on political inclined threads in the forum. For an opinionated person like me, some of you must be wondering why do I hardly comment on such threads. The reason is simple, I do not care. I do not care who is running my estates..what are the current policies, pending policies or the unavoidable policies in future. Some of you may say that regardless of my attitude or lack of attitude...the policies do impact me and my family. Agree on that but my point is, whatever the impact whether positive or not...folks like me will just go along with it...neither agreeing or disagreeing...if we get some money out of it (e.g. SG shares), that means a nice weekend dinner. If we end up paying more (e.g. GST), we fit it into our budget and live with it. Even CPF policies changes doesnt really bother us much, anyway we are using the limits of our monthly CPF for housing payment....do we care about how the policies are like now? Nope...not at all. Whatever changes come, we go along with it. I was young once...and passionate about Singapore once...and concerned about policies and such. I am not sure when did I start to get so nonchalant about things. Will I consider leaving Singapore? Well at least I am not even considering now, not with our parents still around. Filial piety ranks high in my list, so does family ties and love. So does helping the less fortunate and poor. Maybe you may think i am very micro narrow-minded. Well my reply to you is...ermm frankly I am not sure what my reply will be. Because honestly, I stop caring a long time ago. Ppl like you and your frd would like to talk BIG and think BIG...if you and your frd cannot survive in this HOLE for the next 10 yrs or more, you think you stand a better chance overseas? Talking about oxymoron and irony.... I never blame the system, I only reveal why the system doesn't work well with ppl like you and many others whenever they bring up their grouses. If you have been around long enough,I never post any compliants about the system here, I only highlight what are certain shortcoming that I see. The system serve me well, very well in fact and for ppl like me I can prosper very well in such system. Which leaves me in a postion, as to why I can see the problems ppl like you face. The entire gist of running any place is, the rulers must first be the ones, NOT be affected much, is at all by the system they implement.
