Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 it also depends on the way you drive...if you everyday rev the car up to redline, travel 50km or more each day...obviously maintenance of the car will be higher... ↡ Advertisement
Protege 1st Gear December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 aren't they the same thing ie. the Jetta GLi is 2.0T? fast, practical and comfy car http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/review.php?AID=42 GLI is slightly different to the 2.0T in terms of external looks and internal looks. Slightly different in parts used also. GLI is essentially GTI with boot.

But frankly, if so much need to be done for Ralliart, i will rather go for Sti for the same price. Also i dont think Jetta GLI will be as unreliable as what ppl say. Saying that, do you think there will be any chance for Mitsubishi to transfer their SST gear box to their regular Lancer EX?
Protege 1st Gear December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 I think for the Jetta 2.0T or the GLI, reliability problem should not be a major issue as the model is based on the Mk V Golf which has been around since 2004. If there is any major issues, they should have been resolve after 5 years. The issues are now mainly coming from the new MK 6 Golf and Jetta with the 7 speed DSG where there are still nitty gritty issues to be resolve. I think a lot of bros make a very clear comment. If you really want raw power and sporty looks, go for the Ralliart. If you want something fast and less loud, go for the Jetta.
Protege 1st Gear December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 For the Ralliart, I would be weary of the SST transmission since that is something new from Mitsubishi. If its manual, then not a major issue.
Blackseal 1st Gear December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 Think it is Insurace Agent lah and coming in for management role. They need the car for recuitment lor. You have a point there.

Joseph22 Turbocharged December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 You have a point there. Yeah... that is why my friend refuse to take a step up even though he is in the million dollar table. According to him, going into management, will cost his income to suddenly dip as he have to train ppl and not time for sales....
Joseph22 Turbocharged December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 The SST gearbox will not go to the regular Lancer EX due to higher cost.... i wonder what did VW do to keep their DSG cost low... anyway, i was considering Lancer EX 2.0 and Jetta 1.4 Twin Charge for my next Car. my driving style prefer something with a Low End torque. Protege 1st Gear December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 DSG gearbox cost is not low for VW. I know the replacement cost for 1 is about 14-15k. I think VW has the economy of scale when it comes to producing DSG gearbox as so many of their models are using it. As for low end torque, I think it will mainly come from TC conti rides as seems like conti TC rides are tuned to have full torque starting at low RPM. The Jetta 1.4TSI you mention have full torque at 1500rpm. But if you getting the Jetta TSI, do look for the model with 6 speed DSG instead of 7 speed as that has more potential for mod. The 7 speed DSG gearbox has a torque handling of 250Nm only. But having said that, the 6 speed DSG gearbox is discontinued in the 1.4TSI Jetta. So you have to get used. New Jetta 1.4TSI are all coming with the 7 speed DSG.

But of couse VW still can supply to Skoda, Audi and all its ,minons brand...
Dee Neutral Newbie December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 Dun think there is a face life so soon, VW is clearing Jetta 1.6 09 model as 2010 models come with controls on the steering wheel. So the difference is in the interior of the car.
Protege 1st Gear December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 Looking at the amount of cars VW group sold with DSG compared to those that Mit sell with SST, I think Mit don't even have 1% of the volume in terms of SST vs DSG production volume. Secondly, the technology of SST is still relatively new in Mitsubishi camp, so I am sure they would like to let the technology stabilize and make improvement before they mass launch a proven SST to most or all their models. Another issue is cost. I think in view of the cost of the SST or DSG, only premium models from the Mitsubishi camp fetching a higher selling price will get it. Its all about marketing their technology and make their premium customer feel happy when they get their Evos with SST technology while the normal Lancers for example only get an conventional autobox or CVT. But i thought their font look like a Golf?? at least that is what i find when i go down to VW. The one that look like Altis is Skoda If you think Jetta is ugly, then Golf and Soc should be the same right??
