Karoon Turbocharged December 7, 2009 Share December 7, 2009 i made this observation when i filled up my car tank with just about 4-5 litres of petrol at a petrol station... (long story... but basically just filled up enough to avoid empty tank so i can get to my preferred petrol provider) the first time i did it, i realised there was no impact whatsoever on my gauge, distance travelled, distance to empty indicator etc... i thought amount put in was too insignificant. second time, again same thing. but it got me thinking... 5L is a significant amount. is it possible that the first few litres is just vapour, no liquid, or a mix of both.... so you get much less than what you think? ↡ Advertisement
Haziqko Clutched December 7, 2009 Share December 7, 2009 i've tried filling up 10ltrs & only got me a few bars up, quite insignificant actually. i think its got to do with the shape of the tank + vapor + others. the bigger your tank at the bottom the less your meter go up. Agentwilson 1st Gear December 7, 2009 Share December 7, 2009 yup, i agree. level sensors dun work so well at very low levels maybe? might be calibration error

Zyrofillica 1st Gear December 7, 2009 Share December 7, 2009 my car whenever the tank is almost empty (light have not light up), when i drive the 99 bends stretch, every corner the light will light up and then off when the car is straight. think my vehicle petrol sensor is damn bloody accurate

Kb27 Supersonic December 8, 2009 Share December 8, 2009 It depends on your fuel sensor. Mine is a float with variable resistance. At both ends of the float, the reading is not linear. At the low end, it appears whatever you pump will not move the gauge much. Same thing at the top end, it appears that whatever you use the gauge does not move much. Haziqko Clutched December 8, 2009 Share December 8, 2009 I think the concept is almost simliar to your toilet bowl tank. only the other way round. so if you can shake your toilet bowl tank when its filling up it will stop pumping in water intermitantly. thats why 1 forumer say his signal on-off when the car rolled. ↡ Advertisement
