Viceroymenthol 6th Gear December 23, 2009 Share December 23, 2009 (edited) i would assume that the new S5 fitted with the supercharged V6 that is lighter in weight will have superior handling characteristics over the previous car with the NA V8. aurally, i suppose an NA V8 sounds more organic and visceral, the stuff that old school sports cars were made of, compared to the harsh mechanical sounds of a supercharger. big displacement NA V8s do sound very nice through the exhaust when pushed hard... if you go F1 you hear the safety car and medical car around the track... nice man.... Eddy82 Neutral Newbie December 23, 2009 Author Share December 23, 2009 Only the S5 cab will be having the V6, the coupe will be using the V8 without stronics till a facelift. So the handling cannot be better at least for now, but personally i am not aware that a smaller engine will handle better...hmm think 335 and M3

Kyojin 1st Gear December 23, 2009 Share December 23, 2009 Hi all, Which one would you guys consider ?? Its a very tough choice for me. Just can't get over the looks of the S5, its so damn nice and sexy and command much more presence...but i suspect i will get tired of it's looks in future.especially the front grille when my friend comments it look like a big hamburger the other day and the kidneys from BMW are timeless.. (okay, he's a beemer's fan all the way) But for now, i can't stop looking at one, esp one coming up in my rear view mirror with those georgeous running lights. 335i lose out slightly in 0-100km/h but doesnt matter to me, jujst much prefer the way the power is deliver frm the twin turbo engine. and it handles better, ( If S5 cab comes with V8 s-tronics, then its gonna be a very tough call ) 3 series convert looks seem quite dated now and i am sure it doesn't really turn much heads anymore.. IMHO, for a cabrio, performance doesn't matter as much as looks. both are gonna have some scuttle shake, both are gonna do well in the 0-100km/h sprint separated by fractions of a second. you are not gonna drive it like a sports coupe. so i vote S5 cabrio. oh, it has a 7-speed DSG gearbox, so that might help save fuel if you do a lot of highway cruising. also thing to note is that 335 is hardtop, whereas S5 Cab is soft. this means you can operate the roof even when the car is moving, particularly useful if you are on the roads and it starts to drizzle. Azrielsc 1st Gear December 24, 2009 Share December 24, 2009 Little secret, on paper the 335i is slower but actual performance wise, the 335i has been known to hit a constant 5.1sec century sprint. ;)

On paper, S5 cab is 5.6 sec, 335 is 5.8s with dct. Even if its 5.1sec for coupe, i'll be very impress, but that would mean z4 35 stock can go below 5 sec right? Even if its 5.1sec for coupe, i'll be very impress, but that would mean z4 35 stock can go below 5 sec right? It is definitely possible that a stock Z4 i35 can hit 5secs or below. However, if you chip the bimmers, due to the fact that they are turbo-ed, there have been instances where they hit 4.6secs or lower. Interesting huh? :)
Abajaj Neutral Newbie December 29, 2009 Share December 29, 2009 I struggled with the exact same decision ...i.e 335 cab or a S5 cab. In the end, I followed my gut and i'm happy to announce the my white S5 cab will be arriving next week :)

Kinda prefer the twin turbo to the supercharger. Read that mtm can chip the S4 to 430hp. S5 should be possible too. Think i m more or less swing over to S5 already. It all comes down to the preference of the S5 looks is much more that the preference for the twin turbo

If its cabs, then beemer can boast about hardtop. But the 2.5 NA block is hopeless with the extra weight.
Abajaj Neutral Newbie December 30, 2009 Share December 30, 2009 Wow!! U must have booked it months ago without even driving it. With red top ? I bought a PI unit.... It was already on the ship to Singapore when I booked it 2 weeks ago. My car has a black top ... which I prefer as I feel the red top will fade over time. Interior is two toned red/black. Cant wait!
