Redstorm 1st Gear April 25, 2010 Share April 25, 2010 (edited) I tried to update to "Garmin City Navigator Singapore/Malaysia NT 2010.10"..will I lose the Junction View feature? Please advise No, when you update the Garmin CN map or the MSM NT map, you will not lose your JCV feature. All updates will include the latest JCV file that comes along with the map. The SD card is considered a secondary storage for your device and any map stored there has to be named gmapsupp.img except for the 1xxx series. You cannot have 2 maps residing together in the Garmin folder of the SD card. During installaton of any map, if there is any map inside the folder, it will prompt you whether u want to overwrite the existing map. If you do not want to, then it will not install the other map. One way to overcome this limitation is to get seperate SD card for seperate map. SD cards are very cheap nowadays. Another way to have more than one map co-exiting in one SD card is to use the GMaptool software to combine the maps into a single gmapsupp.img file. One main advantage of storing map in SD card is that if the map gets corrupted, u just need to delete and re-install it. The danger of map stored in main memory, is that if it gets corrupted, then your device becomes a useless paperweight.

Billcoke 2nd Gear April 25, 2010 Share April 25, 2010 MFM map do not have Junction View (JCV) and Lane Assist (LA). Only the official Garmin CN map and also the Malsingmaps NT map (compiled by Garmin) have JCV and LA. If MFM do not have JCV and LA, why does my Holux 62, using MFM maps contain JCV and LA? Actually who compiles these JCV and LA? Will there be JCV for MFM for Garmin?

My MSM map (Garmin version) for Garmin 1460 is currently stored in the memory (by default), can I delete the MSM inside the main memory and install it inside the SD card instead? 2. Even if the maps gets corrupted inside the main memory, can't reinstall with new map and overwite the corrupted map?

Will there be JCV for MFM for Garmin? MFM map itself does not have JCV and LA but the Holux62, using MFM maps, contain JCV and LA is probably because the MFM map is compiled by Holux themselves with their own compiler. This is similar to the MSM NT map (with JCV and LA) that belongs to MSM but compiled by Garmin using Garmin compiler. This MFM NT map arrangement is as a result of collaboration with Garmin. Whether or not in future MFM map will come with JCV and LA, will depends on whether they will go into some sort of partnership with Garmin, like that of MSM NT map, for the latter to compile their map with JCV and LA. This is something which is beyond me and for MFM admin to decide.

Although I don't own a 1xxx series model, technically there shouldn't be any difference from other models but it safer to backup a copy of the maps before you move it to the SD card. I always advocate backing up all the files in the main memory. If a map inside the main memory gets corrupted, you can't even operate the device let alone overwrite the corrupt map. When this happens, I think the only way out is to send it to the agent. But, this kinda thing rarely happens. Thanks Compare to Holux, I notice that Garmin's map auto zoom-in and out, sometimes the POI icon disappears from the screen when we drive towards the icon. Quite confusing. Why does the map auto zoom-in and out? can we disable this feature. Secondly, those "Trolley" icons sometimes flood the entire screen, especially when at Raffles Place area. What are those "Trolley" icons? shopping malls? but there aren't any shopping malls at Raffles Place, how could we disabled those "Trolley" icons?? Billcoke 2nd Gear April 26, 2010 Share April 26, 2010 You don't have to change the CN map. Just leave it alone in the main memory. Since yours is a 205 which does not have the JCV and Lane Assist features, for MSM, just go to this link to download the latest MSM ver4.22. You just need to unzip it and copy and paste the file (gmapsupp.img) into the Garmin folder in your SD card. If you don't have the Garmin folder, just create one. As for the MFM map, go to this link. Once download, just run the installer which will guide you thru the map installation. For the MSM map, if you are not able to access the site, you probably need to register as a member first before you could download the map. Hope this helps. Don't forget to shout if you still have problem My Garmin 1460 has JCV and LA, instead of getting update from Garmin website, can we download from here instead. Because Garmin website takes ages to update their maps. http://www.malsingmaps.com/forums/viewtopi...=175154#p175154

Because Garmin website takes ages to update their maps. http://www.malsingmaps.com/forums/viewtopi...=175154#p175154 Actually, there are 2 maps from malsingmaps.com. The one hosted by Garmin Sg is the MSM NT map compiled by Garmin which has the JCV and LA and requires unlock codes for it to work. You need to download this map from the local Garmin website. The other map, which you linked here, is the MSM ver 4.23 which is compiled using cgpsmapper compiler and does not have JCV and LA. But, it is a free map which does not requires any unlock code. For this MSM ver 4.23 map, you can download from the link that your provided. It is very easy to install - just download, unzip, copy and paste the file (gmapsupp.img) into the Garmin folder of your SD card and you are good to go. The main advantage of this free map is that it is updated every Monday and is very up-to-date (ver 4.23) compared to the current MSM NT map (around ver 4.08). Thanks, one last question, comparing MFM and MSM (not compiled by Garmin), both maps are updated regularly, which map do you prefer most, when used in Singapore or Malaysia? It's a matter of preference. Both maps are just as detailed. I use MSM in Sg and MFM in My. In My, the MFM is slightly better.
