Topgun Neutral Newbie December 6, 2009 Share December 6, 2009 Serious ah? No integrity man! Or maybe he/she really cannot take it anymore. There are lots of legitimate reasons to stop or give up. Turning up for a 5.30am flag off is already

Yr1985 1st Gear December 6, 2009 Share December 6, 2009 Hey congrats in finishing the race! I give you two weeks, when all your pain over and you will be thinking of taking part again next year. The finishing shirt is nice old skool design! Not too flashy unlike the 3 stripes last few years.

Topgun Neutral Newbie December 7, 2009 Share December 7, 2009 I suggest hydrating at every water point to avoid cramping up. Loss of fluids and sodium contribute to cramps. I had a friend who ran his first marathon with the strategy of hydrating from 10km onwards because (1) he was used to running 10km w/o drinking and (2) the early water points were always very crowded. He ended up cramping up in the last 1/4 of the race. After that, he drank 100plus from every water point and he claims it helps. I did the same for my first marathon and even though my legs were aching from 30km onwards, I was spared from cramps. Try to avoid drinking when you are thirsty cos that is usually too late. Thanks! I was drinking water and 100plus from 3.30 when I woke up. Every drink station I drank. Still cramps hit at 32km. Tried to pick up pace to run, but cramps came back. Tried again to run on the home stretch for the camera but hurting so limped past the finish line. Still was my best timing this year

I was struggling to complete 5km run back in 2006, and failed my IPPT with timing around 15min. But yesterday was my 3rd full marathon, although timing wise nothing to be proud of. So, if you want, you can Like wat the DJ said before the start of the full marathon yesterday, its only 42,000 steps ↡ Advertisement
