"White Van" scam-just to warn other fellow forumer

Wifey was in driving off car when a van stop beside her n a AhBeng in uniform signal her to stop n wind down windscreen, Ah beng ask my wife for help n ask her if she have a moment to spare, wifey come down n they ask her if she can take their goods-some speakers into our car, wife say dun wan but Ah beng say they really can't bring this speaker back to their office or they will be in trouble, They told wifey that these speaker cost $2999 n show her a mag wth the picture of the speaker, wifey say no need but they block her n refuse to let her get back into her car n beg her to help them, n ask for some "beer money" $800... wifey knows something is fishy but as she is all alone n worried that they turn violent, she told them only have $50, they ask if she have ATM card to draw more money, as wifey is rushing for time n these r 3 ah bengs corner her she no choice but relent, she brought the speakers fr them.... it is actually a low-end speaking selling at a mid-range speaker price....

 

In future if any forumer saw this van stop beside u n ask u for help to take their speaker n ask for coffee money, just drive off immediately, don't entertain them...it is a scam!! [:(]

 

btw, the van no. is GW 5884 A but the alphabet may be wrong... anyway this van is not white but green/blue colour;

 

May refer to this site for more info...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_van_speaker_scam it is a long time scam but many pple is still fallen for it, n they seem pretty aggressive recently.

I believe many here had the same encounter as you. It has been going on for 2-3 years. It happened to me about 2 yrs ago, 2 Bengs driving a cargo van stopped me while I was about to drive off from my office's car park. They told me they have a pair of branded speaker for sale and told the same story, saying that they have taken out excess units of branded speaker from the warehouse and they can't bring back to their company warehouse and are willing to dispose off the pair of very expensive branded speaker worth more than a thousand for just $300.00. I firmly told them I am not interested and just drove off. So the moral of the story is you get what you paid, there is no way you can buy a a genuine brand stuff at unbelievable low price.

this thing has being going on for so long. ur wife could haf call the police. how much did she paid them anyway?

for extra info, wat these pple has done constitute to "illegal hawking" and it probably comes under the purview of nea. they are not allow to sell anything in public unless licenced by nea to do so.

At 1st they say $800 when wifey say no money they tell her draw another $50 enuf but later thay extorted for more... so wife emptied out her wallet...think she paid more than $200.... for something we don't need. But really, wifey told me she is really scared as they look violent... daylight robbery...

 

I know of this scam.... N would like to warn others not to ever fall for it... don't even stop to entertain them... [shakehead]

these white van robber really know how to choose their target.

sometimes i wonder how come i never had the chance to "meet" them in person huh.

maybe i look ("rusty" look and broke too) worst than them and they dare not approach me.

I keep a spanner and a "fist full of fury" in the car just in case these fcukers come around. Encountered them too many times and its not going to be long before i get charged for assault on one of these low life a------es.

Such scam have been around for nearly 10 years!!!

Can't believe there are people who still got con. This explain why they are still around.

If I am not wrong, this appear at least twice on TV before and it also came out in news cum newspaper.

 

Just get away if any encounter... Unless u want some cheap speakes... My friend bought at only $250 from them 2 years ago... $800 is cut throat price.

Happen to me 1s 2 yrs ago... but i told them that the place that i'm staying is my mum-in-law's @ bb... so i pretend to call my wife and told them that we don't need it.

 

They deal very fast. they scared that we call the police somehow.

 

Saw them @ cck area also trying to sell the same tg..

 

their method is that they say that they have missed the ship and no point turning back to their store....

Hmm. It spurs a question in me....

 

Can I ask... By law, what is the maximum amount of injury I (the victim) can inflict on these people while trying to escape from them?

 

I noe for kidnapping (or rape?), the maximum injury which the victim can inflict upon the offender is death. (correct me if I'm wrong, and not sure of the exact phrasing though. Now finding my book [sweatdrop])

why would u need to whack them in order to get away? [confused][confused]

coz according to TS, the woman was cornered. Perhaps just pushing them away and shouting for help will do, but just in case they turn violent.......

 

edit: ok I found my logic. There's no need to reply to this post and post #15.
