Reverse Sensor Failure

Dear all, a few days ago, my reverse sensor malfunctioned. Whenever I change to the reverse gear, the sensor will start to sound whether or not there is actually anything behind the car. Intermittently, the reverse sensor will work properly but most of the time it does not. This problem actually started around the time when there was heavy rain all around the island (it did not get flooded) but I'm not sure if the 2 are linked.

Today, I went down to C&C and was told that there was a $180 charge because the warranty on accessories is only for 1 year (Car is slightly more than 2 years old) so I was wondering if there were other places that I could get the sensor fixed. The service personnel only did a cursory check (he put the car in reverse mode) and he said that I would most likely have to change the reverse sensor because of some magnetic fault.

1. Could the fault be with a shorted out wire instead of the reverse sensor?

2. Can someone recommend me a shop I can go to to fix this problem for less than $180?

The car in question is a Lancer EX.

Thanks.

If it's just those 2 small reverse sensors, you go to accessories shop should be abt $100 only.

I installed a new set for my Sunny at Autotrend Toa Payoh. Colour coded to my car colour too.

The contact could be faulty.

What exactly is the contact? And can I fix it myself? This is my first car so I don't really know what you're talking about.

And does Autotrend Toa Payoh check what is wrong with the sensor? I'm not exactly sure which part is spoilt.

Yes, Autotrend can do it and in fact any accessories shop can. If you go to Autotrend, look for boss Darren. Tell him the problem and ask him to check for you first. Whether it's wiring loose, sensor spoilt, etc.

Read before some shops install new set only $80.

Not worth it. Troublesome to install, to stick to the inner bumper.

It will sense the entire area....good for a single pole.

Now Its my turn to have this problem.

Any advice?

Oh, I remember creating this thread. I resolved it at Autotrend ToaPayoh as suggested by the forumer above for 75 SGD.

They removed the old sensors and replaced it with new ones in about 30 minutes (including 15 minutes of wait time).

Hi, sorry for bringing up the old thread.

I wonder is there any reverse sensor without the display board thing? i only need the sound so it won't clutter my dash board.

thanks for any reply
