Dark Energy/Matter only exist in theory and is actually an equation, inserted into supercomputer simulators to make the Universe work as it does today. Without these equations, the simulations are incoherent, and the whole Universe just flies apart! Anyway, with the LHC now in operation, hopefully we get to understand a little bit more about how it all works [scholar]

Dark energy also existed in Star Wars. It is a force use by the Dark side.

Perhaps George Lucas already solve this dark energy thing 30 years ago.

Haha! That is only the Star Wars version, or what Mr Lucas thought would be a interesting concept for Dark Energy. In reality though, Dark Energy is the driving force behind the accelerating expansion of the Universe. No one understands this form of energy. What IS it? Where does it come from? Will it ever stop? Unsolved mysteries one and all!

It's probably nonsense but my personal opinion for a Dark Energy candidate is "Qi"! Anyone who has ever practiced "Qigong" will understand that when you put your hands close together to hold an imaginary ball, there is an expanding force which kinda drives your hands apart. <_<

errrr.....Iisterry is the man [thumbsup]

i just copied the solid photo in my comp so that i can save in my hp to show my kid [grouphug]

Kind of makes one humble doesn't it? [sweatdrop]

The day ET is made known to human kind is the day we will all embrace instead of trying to kill each other.

I recommend reading "Chariots Of The Gods".

Haha! Angels & Demons is based on scientific facts and recognised theories. A theory needs to be proven through demonstrable, repeatable experiments (ala 'mythbusters' style) in order to become a fact. But it is still recognised by the scientific community as a distinct possibility.

Anti-matter is a fact, whereas the encapsulation of anti-matter in a stable condition (as in the movie) is pure fiction. No one has collected that much anti-matter so that it is visible to the naked eye. It has been observed only in minute amounts, at atomic/sub-atomic levels, and is negated almost immediately by ordinary matter. But that doesn't change the fact that anti-matter does exist and if we are able to stabilise it and use it to our advantage, alot of the world's energy problems can be solved. Energy conversion for anti-matter, based on the Einstein's mass-energy equivalence (E=mc2), is 100% efficient!! Unlike ordinary matter, which gives us only 25% efficiency through nuclear fission.

However, obtaining anti-matter in any sizeable amount is currently not acheivable due to it's incredible cost to produce. It would cost around US$63 billion to produce 1 gram of anti-hydrogen :o

Thanks for the write up.. very informative...

i'm more interested in what happens near the edge(event horizon) of a black hole, einstein's theory of relativity(both general and special) and all those phenomena which cannot be proved by newtonian mechanics...

Wait.

Is it not true that by smashing atoms together, there is a danger of creating a black hole?

Those expert say that the possiblities is there but the most is a very tiny one and will flicker out of existence as fast as it appear. Hopefully the so call expert really know what they are doing.

er..scientists is not even certain that black hole exist..at this moment, there hasn't been any visual imaging of a black hole..

Black holes are actually remnants of stars. Nuclear reaction in stars act as a force preventing a star from collapsing into itself due to it's gravity. When the fuel runs out, whatever leftover materials collapse onto itself into a sphere of immense density. If there isn't enough mass, the star will not evolve into a black hole. They may become dwarves or neutron star.

Neutron stars are stars which have died but do not have the critical mass to evolve into a black hole. To put things in perspective, our sun have to pack all it's mass into the size of Singapore in order to become a neutron star. For our sun to become a black hole, it has to compress itself to even smaller size

To spot a black hole, a telescope need to have the resolution equivalent 'seeing a leaf at Los Angeles from New York' because black holes are simply too small in size and too far away(to have an idea on insterstellar distance, if our sun is a grain of sand, the nearest star system, Alpha Centauri, is about 8km away)

so how many times are they going to recreate the collision of larger and larger particles until one day there REALLY is a black hole created. After all they said the chance is extremely low, but everyone here knows statistics right? i reckon 2012 is when curiosity killed mankind (and the cats too)

haha then again hopefully i would find this thread in 2013 and post some AAR on my doomsday post lol~
