Watwheels Supersonic November 23, 2009 Share November 23, 2009 Hats off to Mr Khaw. To be able to put aside his pride as a minister to apologise on behalf of the ppl he hardly know...respect. You will not get to see powerful ppl holding high positions to do smth like this. Cos their pride, career & position will be at stake. ↡ Advertisement

Bfg22 Neutral Newbie November 23, 2009 Share November 23, 2009 I agree. I want to laugh if he is really one of our "better ministers"... Not only shipping off old folks to our neighboring countries and the way he handled the NKF incident... Anyway, US medical system is still much more professional especially if you have insurance. But for those without insurance I can only say sorry.
Seanboi 1st Gear November 23, 2009 Share November 23, 2009 Yep. Most of the rest have a habit of blaming everything but themselves. What was with the Bt Panjang LRT? Freaky stuffs. If you are going to fork out money to spend one night with your spouse or lover in one of the most luxurious hotels in Singapore like the Raffles Hotel, Marina Mandarin or Pan Pacific, you would naturally expect out of the world service worth every single cent paid. Unfortunately, the air-conditioner in your room somehow leaked in the middle of the night when you were soundly asleep and you found your $1,000 Armandi cloak soaked wet the next day. It's an option. How do you know it's bad? I come across some ppl with JB wife who already have a luxury house there. Once they hit 50 they will quit their jobs here, retire & relac over there. You have open eyes to see who are the group of ppl who say it's no good. Dan there are those who echo the same thing w/o giving much thought.

Sparespares Neutral Newbie November 24, 2009 Share November 24, 2009 Folks, Come on, give credit when due. KBW may have incurred the wrath of some Singaporeans by proposing that they go to JB retirement home, but for this case he did well. They were open, drilled right down to the root cause, and had a speedy response to salvage the situation. And he had even apologised. What more do you expect? Unltd 5th Gear November 24, 2009 Share November 24, 2009 (edited) You guys know how much of our GDP is spent on healthcare? You ever wondered why our "public" or "restructured" hospitals employ mainly foreign nurses or even docs? You ever wondered how much the docs or nurses here are paid vs those in other first world countries? Why do we consider ourselves a regional medical hub? We spend about 3-4% of GDP on healthcare, other first world Countries (USA, UK, Japan or even HK) spends a few times more of their GDP (more than 10%), and we are proud we spend less. Because we spend less, we cannot afford local docs or nurses, the good local nurses and docs (english and mandarin speaking) goes to other countries to practise. Docs and nurses in other first world countries are paid ~50% more. We are a medical regional hub because we have very good private sector healthcare which is out of reach to average joes and janes. Thus it the quality better in a "public" or "restructured" hospital? You make your own assumption. Edited November 24, 2009 by Unltd
