Dunno Neutral Newbie November 18, 2009 Share November 18, 2009 Take away any privilege of the Malays in Malaysia, they will be in for some big riots and the Chinese and Indians minorities will be the targets of abuse. The very first step in giving the privileges is already wrong. Now there's no way to take it back. They've dug a hole too deep that even if they try to cover it, it will not work as the hole gets deeper every day.

Tonyhawk 1st Gear November 18, 2009 Share November 18, 2009 (edited) im no fan of the man. but like ts said, give credit where its due. he did alot of things right, and i applaud him for that. as for the many other things he did wrong, hopefully somebody is rectifying them.... i think its time for him to let go, but strangely, when he does, we'd have lost something. no other leader in se asia commands as much respect as he does. and he's milking it for all its worth, going on visits, giving speeches, generating goodwill. Question is, Is he milking it for himself or for Singapore? personally, its more the latter, but it doesnt even matter. he is trying for the betterment of Singapore, contributing to the greater good. Ask yourself this question: What are you contributing to Singapore? NS? your income tax? I stress again I am not a fan. in fact i am against many of his policies, including his heavy handed ways. but there is no need to hate a man. especially a man who is in his own way working hard for you and your children. Karoon Turbocharged November 18, 2009 Share November 18, 2009 Quote looking at our neighbours, we should consider ourselves lucky we do not have any natural resources i see it this way, LKY and his team lead but the people are the ones that eventually made singapore what it is today our history did not start in the 1960s. back in the 1400s empires fought over this land. johor by chance had it when the brits came and gave it away. everyone wanted us for our strategic location. the brits turned it from a regional port to an international one. its laughable to pin all the 'success' on one man. Do note, i am talking about LKY rather than the PAP.

Pchmj Clutched November 18, 2009 Share November 18, 2009 The only thing I don't like is the sudden huge influx of FT which makes me feel irritated everywhere I go, even at my home. Neighbour is one of them and is very noisy, from grandpa to a 2-3 year old grandson. Other than that, it's really incredible for a young nation to become what it is today. One look at Malaysia and we can see that indeed our success is due to a vision of 1 man. In fact in all the major country, it is one man which made the different. For example china, it take 1 man decision to open up china that push it to where it is now. For Singapore, That man is LKY no doubt.

Iisterry 3rd Gear November 18, 2009 Share November 18, 2009 (edited) I seriously advise revisiting your history before making such sweeping statements that LKY is responsible for Singapore's success today. It is a grave insult to the rest of the PAP old guards. Perhaps this blog can give some refresher. It is highly pro-government in case you're thinking otherwise. http://singaporegovt.blogspot.com/2006/01/...-of-pap-no.html As for China. Piyopico Supercharged November 18, 2009 Share November 18, 2009 No one is arguing against giving credit when it is due. People are just upset that accountability does not go along with their clamour for credit and recognition. I can give you a long list of things that he did that has proven to be wrong and WE are still paying the price.............. ↡ Advertisement
