Ride is 06 Vios I would suggest you change your timing belt at 60k.Maybe you need mechanic to check on it.because belt tensioner also can make noise.and you need good oil treatment for your car.hope it help. Amsyl Neutral Newbie November 14, 2009 Share November 14, 2009 If it is the timing, your engine will not be running. Most like, the belts turning your aircon compressor & alternator or a worn bearing is causing the sound. have it retensioned or change or spray some wd40 on the bearing. Opel17 6th Gear November 14, 2009 Share November 14, 2009 The likely cause is compressor/alternator belt [V-belt construction] slipping, which is due to worn out. Unlikely to be due to timing belt, which is a toothed belt construction. 2nd hand car dealers usually spray WD40 or oil to "solve the problem", only enhance the slipping and remove the noise. Tensioning the belt further may temporary resolve this noise problem, but may cause belt breakage subsequently. Advisable to change the belt.

Bornno1 1st Gear November 20, 2009 Author Share November 20, 2009 i open bonnet and seems to be coming from alternator area, but cant pinpoint. Its very high pitched. My car no timing belt only chain. I suspect is the belt tensioner or the alternator bearings kaput liao. But everything is running fine on my car, volt is ard 14.2 when idling. Air con still cold. The noise only can be heard outside but not in car. Sianz irritating :(

Ride is 06 Vios Temporary measure can use silicon grease or silicon spray or dia-electric grease on your belts inner surface, should quiet the belts. Silicon will condition the rubber component in belts, making it slightly softer. DO NOT use WD40 which will damage belts. ↡ Advertisement
