What is all 0W30, 0W40, 5W30, 5w40 ?

Hi guys, someone please guide me what does all this number represent for the engine oil ?

I wish to change my engine oil some time soon but could not decide what type of oil is better or recommended for my 06 sunny ?

2006 engine actually can try 5w30 or 0w30. u will experience better mileage and more power. however if u're mileage is more than 100k den go for 5w40.

 

mobile 1 is not too bad, i nvr try before but have heard good feedbacks.

mobil1 supermarket promotion only got 5W50, i m using it for my 06 matrix, not bad. last time using redline 5w40 also nice.

can go to mx and buy. or those spare part shops. many do sell other grades of M1. supermkt is ex. and only have 5w50

Basically W30 is thinner than W40, which in turn is thinner than W50.

I did a research last time,i just change from mobil1 5w50 to redline 5w30, u will love the latter,no doubt the former is oso good,but the latter will improve ur fc better,hope that helps bro :) think fjc forum sells $15 per Q ...

whats the reason for older engines to go for 40wt oil? I've been using 5w30 on my 7yo engine with 160,000km mileage...so far so good leh..

i guess it has more protection against wear and tear. however.... i was advise if there is no drop in oil level den it perfectly fine to stick to w30 oils
