Karoon Turbocharged November 9, 2009 Share November 9, 2009 yes there was at a junction near the NG station. involved a container truck, a flatbed, a tanker and a car. heard the driver of container was killed. RIP. some in the evening crowd were stuck in the jam for > 2 hours something has to be done about that place being a one-way in/out track.

Meadelx200 1st Gear November 9, 2009 Share November 9, 2009 Yes, the accident happened around 4pm after the LNG junction towards the island side. I think 1 lamppost had fallen and hence the 1st lane on the otherside of the road towards the city was closed. There are 4 lanes but the 2nd & 3rd lanes were closed for road works and hence left only the left most lane. I was going for a break then and saw about 500m of jam already. After break about 4.45pm the jam increasingly worsen as most workers will start to leave the island after 5pm. I took about 45min to clear the jam. The long jam was largely due to :- - only 1 left lane passable for the 4 lanes highway - the never ending repair/service of the roads typically taking up 2 lanes - no traffic police was in sight to control the jam or at least divert the traffic - evening peak hour The other real concern is that this highway is the ONLY Exit for all vehicular traffics leaving Jurong Island. I'd had seen flood last year on several lanes and it also jammed up the highway. Any Emergency in the island will be a real headache for anyone who wanted to get out fast. The other common observations are speeding of vehicles carrying workers & goods and not obeying traffic signs.

Very bad jam and huge headache for the security forces.. sighh excuse me... can you enlighten me how it was a headache for the security forces? from strictly my own personal viewpoint i don't see the forces doing much (apart from first response) other than stand around protect the scene. i mean, they could at least do traffic control so more can go past, or divert traffic and use the opposite lane, or work with JTC or LTA/mediacorp and update companies of traffic situation so people can stagger their return times. but none of the above leh....
