IMO, not a gd buy at $36k.... my colleague got a 2nd hand vios abt couple of months ago (yr 2006 model as well, plate no. is SGR i think) at just $29.8k... not sure abt the mileage tough... [nod]

hi, can anyone advise if a Oct 2006 toyota corolla (3yr+) at $34K is a good buy? I intend to drive for 1- 1.5yr and sell before the car reach 5 year. OMV $15,498 and COE $10,500.

Planning buy this ride from my friend who is ungrading to a new car.

wat do you then recommend? As i plan to sell the car in 1-1.5 yr time. Thus want to ensure that i do not lose much when i sell the ride.

i got a 5 yr old VTI civic 1.6A @ 31.8k (No loan) recently. OMV is 19k+, COE is 20K. Parf value @ pt of purchase is 26.2k.

i think made in japan cars are better than made in thailand cars.

used to drive vios and i can feel the differences.

u might want to consider civic (ES model)...

gd luck~

cash is king.

the reason why owners end up selling their cars to dealers is becos dealers can pay full cash to settle.

i have this advantage when buying cars.

most of my cars are bot direct from owners, super quick easy transaction, full cash settle.

Price i buy is better than from dealer, price the seller sold is also better than selling to dealer.

win-win

dont flame me hor...

How do i calculate the depreciate for this car. What do you think will be the value of this car if in 1-1.5yr time. ( before it hits 5 year old)

to maximise the ownership period without losing out on the arf rebate, you should scrap /sell just before the 5 years is up. at 5 years, the paper value is 0.825*OMV + 0.5*COE + Body.

it is never a good time to buy a used car when the current coe is very much higher than the coe of the used car. tis is becos the price of a used is has been pegged upwards to match the more expensive coe but when u scrap, this upward price is not realised. u will lose big time.

Many people have the mis-impression that as long as your car hit something before, it's considered accident car. That's not always true. Why?

Yes, dents on bumpers and doors are still considered accident free, else 99.9% of the cars on the roads are non-accident free cars already. It's so common to have minor dents on bumpers and doors, it's as good as scraping your bumper against a pillar when turning, etc. All these are minor exterior damage which actually do not need replacements. For bumper dents, they can mould the plastic or knock the metal back, respay and it's good as new. All these are termed as cosmetic damage.

When it's an accident car, it means the car is involved in some rather major accidents that affected the chasis of the car or cut and weld is required. For this to happen, it's usually some collision of high impact. Even if you go for STA evaulation, they will use computer to measure the chasis alignment and check for weld marks to determine if it's an accident car. Normal bumper damage will not be considered as accident car to them since it does not affect anything except cosmetics of the car. So a car can have dents all over, left right centre back, everywhere, but still be certified as accident-free by STA or VICOM.

I agree with the above.

Another simpler way to look at it. if you ever claim insurance for the car, then the car have had accident before.

Normal dents and bumps, don't think you will claim insurance lo....

Actually the original poster is not show-off but someone who understand the effect of Loan interest. It is terrible. 2.5% x 5 year old = 12.5% effectively you paid additonal 12.5% above the transacted price.

So he does the right thing, start saving for your next car once you bought the current car (and you gets a 12.5% discount off your next car effectively).
