I intend to buy a 2nd hand car which is 1yr plus old. However, I found a car which has $2 COE. So after driving for a 3-4 years, will car dealers give me a lower quote due to the $2 COE? The car seems good, just that the $2 COE is bothering me cos the next buyer will not get any COE credits back if they are gg to scrap the car. Thanks in advance. hi may i share wat i've derived as "5-yr depreciation" (for selling back at paper value) compared to "10-yr depreciation": 5-yr dep = [new / bought car price - paper value at 5th year] / 5 (or less if bought 2nd hand but not reaching 5 yr) 10-yr dep = [new car price - parf at 10th yr] / 10 so if u wanna take S$2 coe, gotta use 5-yr dep to work out ur depreciation (or losses) per yr (loan int not incl). The other alternative is send it to STA. BTW, fender benders are not considered accident-vehicle.

Dealer sell u, he say this car is selling lower than "market value" so u think ok lah but when u sell back to the dealer wil offer u only paper value which is peanuts compared to what u paid. It is OK if u can bargain down the price much lower than Market Value but only if u decide to use till the COE expire. That u lose much less.

It was a very very low mileage car and the asking price was really compatible from other listed prices. It was a very friendly and hassle free transaction right from the beginning to the end which matters the most to me... Still happily driving it everyday :) =============== That goes to show there r still good deals out there somewhere. But maybe a bit hard to find only. Yunalesca Neutral Newbie December 23, 2009 Share December 23, 2009 Hi dear forum members. Sorry for Hijacking this thread. Would like some help regarding getting a used car. I'm thinking on getting a 2nd hand car as a mean of transport to get from Point A to Point B and back everyday. Not asking for much as I am on a tight budget. As long as it can move and get me to places. I also considering a used van, since operating on diesel will prove more economical. Maybe something like this? http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...242&DL=1000 Does the pricing look ok? Is a car of this age advisable to get? Maintenance wise will it be a nightmare? If the car need constant repairing then kinda defeats the purpose of me getting car at this price. =( Anyone knows where can I find the info on the fuel efficiency of the car? May I know what other money factors should I be looking out for? Both Long term and short term wise. Other than Payment/Loan, Road Tax (I do notice that the Road tax is quite high), Parking, ERP+ Misc, Radio Tax, Insurance (How is Insurance amount calculated anyway?) Please do fill me in if I am missing anything. I am a total greenhorn at all these stuff. My family hasn't own a car yet. I would appreciated it very much if someone could do a mock-up calculation on the monthly expenses of taking on cars like this. It will probably also be useful for other forum members like me who are looking into buying 2nd hand cars. Any other advices are also very much appreciated. =) Have a great holiday~

Try not to get such an old car as the FC tend to be higher and road tax is 150%..... Maintenance is as pain in the @ss.... My friend bought an ESI abt 2 yrs ago... after 1/2 yr he sell it off as the Maintenance is too high.... Too much wear n tear parts need to change... (Maybe he suay bought an bad car). As for the insurance is depend on wht is ur age, how long ago u got u lic and ur car model (ESI dun think will be cheap) and Lastly NCB but i dun think u gave as u said u never own a car b4..... "Other than Payment/Loan, Road Tax (I do notice that the Road tax is quite high), Parking, ERP+ Misc, Radio Tax, Insurance (How is Insurance amount calculated anyway?)" Think u miss out the most important: Fuel, Tyre, servicing. tht all i can think of for now.... Might miss out something... Any bro or sis pls add on.....
