surely. its meant for ppl to bargain.

good buys always dun last long....

times are good, dealers dun bother with bargains.....

they have a profit margin to stick to.....sometimes cant go too low also.

my jan07 cerato, dealers are willing to take in at 26k.

these are then sold ard 30-32k in the market.....

Of course mah. Those dealers that posted their cars on sgcarmart have to earn money what. You can try bargaining with them or look for direct sellers.

Problem now is direct sellers are also pricing their vehicles on par or close to dealer prices. It's a viscious cycle actually. Direct seller wants to sell off car, but do not want to sell at bargain price compared to dealer cars, unless no choice. Direct seller needs to buy new car which is from either dealer or AD, which doesn't come cheap as well. Everyone's objective is to minimise loss when buying and selling, hence it is damn hard to find a good deal.

Guess storage cost in this tiny island is still cheap. They rather store for months and not lower the price. But, once COE creep up a bit, they started to adjust their prices up, VERY FAST.

Of course. Their strategy is to wait for big fish so that they can chop carrot big time.

good deal for you inevitably means bad deal for him. its better to have competition for an efficient market, where nobody takes advantage of anybody.

Do you find that the used cars listed on the website are very pricey?

Got my Jazz from there last July (Car registered Sept 2005)

Listed price $39k, bargained to 35-36k

Car was in pretty good condition. Except my side mirror paint got chipped 2 weeks later , they might have patched it and the paint just chipped off and wiring in my left mirror broke, Kah Motor fixed it for $35.

Even for direct sellers who post with high prices, after a few weeks, these cars will still be "makan" by dealers if there are no good offers. Just came across on example a couple of days ago.

Direct owner selling a car for $120k. My own assessment, based on the age and mileage, the car can be bought for around $115k or less. A few week later, it became "Sold". Then 2 days later, the same car popped up under one of the dealers selling for $119,900. Somemore the dealer says "selling cheap". Then I checked back on the original advert by the direct owner, the status now became "Expired" instead of "Sold". A rough estimation, the dealer probably "makan" the ride at $112-113k or thereabouts.

At the same time, I also know of a guy trying to sell the same model (one month newer, but higher specs that cost $10k more when new). Dealers are offering him only around $112k. He fed-up, traded in back to the AD for $120k since he wanted to upgrade to another model from the AD.

BTW, also want to add. Beware when you see an advertisment from a Direct Owner. It may be a consignment vehicle, ie, the owner consign it to a dealer to sell it for them. So the dealer gets a cut of a few grands from the sale, meaning, the car ain't that cheap as well.

Agree.

What goes around, comes around.

It's a vicious cycle. Now is sell high, buy high or even higher.

I think i read somewhere AD also selling used vehicle of their brand. Not too sure if is started. If they do it will be good for all 2nd hand car buyers.
