Auto_emocion 2nd Gear November 7, 2009 Share November 7, 2009 Hi, went down to Harvest to see the Superb this PM. One thing I'm not sure of, does the Elegance variant does automatic self parking or just display to guide you.? TIA. ↡ Advertisement
Kryskoko Neutral Newbie November 7, 2009 Share November 7, 2009 Elegance should be the higher specced 1.8T version. This version comes with the park assist which helps you automatically scan the lot and parallel park for u! You need to control the brakes/ accelerator though. Only Parallel parking is automatic though. I bought the basic version so it only shows the visual distance from the obstacles for both front and rear. Still loving every bits of the car

Konken Clutched November 7, 2009 Share November 7, 2009 The Simply Superb comes with 18"rims, low profile tyre as stock (Michelin or Continental). Its a tad hard but still better than my previous SX4. Have to agree the 16" ones are more comfy.
Konken Clutched November 7, 2009 Share November 7, 2009 1) u see an opening between cars (parallel park only, does not matter left or right) 2) activate the parallel park button and drive forward at less than 30 km/ hr 3) all round sensors will ping the area and measure the opening 4) continue forward till display tells u to engage R gear 5) engage R and let go of steering, keep foot near brake for standby (it reverse itself quite fast!) 6) car parks itself, steering turns on its own 7) display tell u to engage D 8) Move forward and straighten wheels. Done Since its requires driver intervention at some point, it is not full auto, just semi-auto if you will.
AAAP Neutral Newbie November 8, 2009 Share November 8, 2009 My wife thinks it is the best feature in the car, parallel parking is a breeze with this feature on. I think it is worth the additional money spent on the higher specced version apart from the other add-ons such as GPS and Adaptive front lighting (the headlights can actually move direction). Watched the auto parking system & the swinging of the steering to the left & right to me is quite rigorous.I don't think the steering system will last very long. To me,parking sensors are sufficient enough for me.After all,if you can't parallel park, how did you pass your driving test? Sorry but don't mean to flame anyone.Just my 2 cts. We don't parallel park everyday, so it is not going to wear it off within a short period of ownership.
Konken Clutched November 8, 2009 Share November 8, 2009 That's right, most of the time we reverse park. If the steering column is gonna fail just becos of this feature, its likely a lemon. Safety factors are built in the design engineering wise. If you are in places like Serangoon Gardens where the parallel parks are quite tight with big cars there most of the times, you gonna appreciate this feature. ↡ Advertisement
