Thats the challenge that many dual income have kids families face. Its almost a necessay evil.

it depends on what you want for your kids. I have 2 kids, 7 and 4 years old.

Since day 1 me and my wife insist on having no maids in the house.

my parents is not around anymore to lend a hand, my wife parents in my msia.

so it is down to only both of us. we managed without maid for the past 7 years.

my current maid is so-so. fresh from the village but have quickly developed a habit: chocolate lust...

no wonder my big new jar of nutella is completely clean after a week... but its ok, could've been worse...

she replaced a good maid who just finished her contract. very rare.... young, hard working, no nonsense, pretty face, solid 9/10 body....

mom-in-law asked her to go...

[mad] [mad] [mad]

my current helper is into her second contract already.

Not all are bad, but also have to depend on luck.

I personally know a maid.

She complain her employer don't give her enough food and make her clean the house over and over again.

They only gave her some rice and ikan bilis for meals.

She left after a month.

Employer can afford to buy a condo, but they can't afford to feed the maid.

That's how some employers are. They want to take full advantage, and treat them like slaves.

My observation is that the older folks tend to be more extreme. Either treat the maid too well or ill treat them.

My SIL's MIL always tip her maid with 5-dollar & sometimes even gossip about her together behind her back. She's fuming mad but LLST need the MIL to help look after kids...

Some maids damn happening. Give them 20 mins to go down, they also can do some hanky-panky.

Opppss...

Or when employers go for holiday or on Sunday, some maids can do some crazy shit.

I've been having a maid for the past 16 years, at least 10 over the years. The first one cost only $220 pm. Now it's $550+. But their attitude gets worse and worse over the years. I suppose it's inevitable given the pace of development everywhere. The early ones came to earn a better living. Now the new ones are coming to feed their consumer habits. Starting with a handphone...

One of my previous maids, on the last night of her service, I came down to give her a small ang pow. I found her missing from her room. The back door was open and she had gone out. She returned in the early hours of the morning, giving excuse she went to say goodbye to some friend. What was amazing is that she was a married woman and truly fugly. Yet got business also...

Looks like if not for the exchange rates, most maids should be going HK. So much more welfare for them.

Looks like more “humane’ rights there– giving them an allowance for food is correct. It takes the subjectivity of quantity offered in employers home.

Philippine’s economy doing well; Has it affected the number willing to come out and work as maids. Tough job, long hours.

  • Yet this may change. After years of puttering along as the tiger economies in the region roared, the Philippines is finally showing some growl of its own. Between 2008 and 2012, GDP grew by an average of 4.7%, rising to 7.2% in 2013—higher than any East Asian country except China—despite being hit by one of the most powerful typhoons ever recorded.
