I had this new maid who was a big disappointment and a weirdo. On the first day, my mum asked if she got hp, she said dun have. Then one fine day when we came home and while she was bathing, we saw her hp charging in the kitchen! Ok nvm, hp small issue and we didn't make a fuss out of it though she may feel paiseh for lying. Next, when we asked her to eat with us at the dinner table, she refused and would just eat maggie mee. There was once she asked for permission to go out for 1-2 hrs, we granted. But then she came back only after 5 hours! We scolded her but then episode closed.

Then sometimes when we told her to go to the neighbourhood to buy things, she would only return quite sometime later. And her standard of housekeeping really sux, dirty cups, utensils, etc

why is that so [confused]

becos its their upbringing, its a habit since young. they can eat very little side dishes, but just give them rice. even if only rice mix with chilli or soup.

I thk ur fren just has a bad maid. my maid dont like to eat, wants to keep slim. no incidences of theft so far anyway and I always leave my cash ard on my table. even money found in clothes she took to wash would be returned. we have a petty cash bag for her to purchase stuff like groceries or watever. our family went overseas for a week with her left alone at home and everyting was still fine. it helps that we have neighbours keeping a watch for us....we do the same for the neighbour when they go overseas also... but she has a bit of an attitude...apart from that everything is ok...

am happy for u for finding a good maid [thumbsup]

i always feel that it is always a 2 way traffic between employer and maid. treat them well and they will treat u well too but there will always be exception.....

The best maid I've come across is my aunt's. Work for 10++ years already. Maid's husband ditched her after getting her money so she is very sad and tell my aunt she want to stay as long as she can and don't want to go back. Aunt stays single storey landed house. How good she is:

Ask my aunt to buy paint, she slowly refurnish the whole house.

Cooked very good food, always buy ingredients to make various types of kueh for whole family, if there is an event/gathering in the house, she will make more. Taste really good, can't get anywhere else.

Treat aunt's kid like her own, kids love her, now all grow up already.

Take good care of house when owners not around, won't do anything funny. No need to worry about anything.

It's so fortunate to have such a maid.

people who does not employ maid will talk and think until everything is so easy and simple...

it is only when they need to employ maid and they will know the difficulties...

not everyone has parents willing to take care of kids for them...

not everyone can quit their job and stay at home to take care of kids....

sometimes...pple are left with no choice.... [shakehead] [shakehead] [shakehead]

Totally disagree. We have choices. Problem is when the obvious choice is toublesome for us, we defer and seek apparently easier but truly bad ones.

Maids are people first, and employees second. Provide them with the essentials. Essentials isn't 2 pieces of bread and a glass of water in the morning.

Essentials are healthy wholesome diet and grooming, tools to do the job properly, sufficient time given to finish a task, proper clear instructions, patient explanations and feedback on performance, adequate rest time and space for personal issues. Communicate..communicate....and communicate with dignity to them.

Clearly employees who are treated with respect perform at peak, just as how we expect to be treated at work too.

Even better, whomever stays under your roof should be treated as part of the family.

Another example of a cheapskate employer. Sausages and friut are expensive [laugh][laugh][smash] !!! Then definitely this kinda people cannot and must not have a maid.

Need to ask permission some more!!

sad to be a bad example but anyone here providing free flow of sausage and fruit to their maid? i mean no need to ask. just let them eat as much as they want? honestly i am more comfortable of asking before eating. i know many ppl separate their food from maid food but i dont. i just hope i can at least eat some leftovers. does that make me cheapskate? just curious.

If your feelings were hurt....hmmmm.....OK

I had a free flow policy when it came to food in my household. Anybody can consume anything as long as there is no wastage. When the stocks ran low, we top up. I made sure nobody goes hungry in my house nor will anybody have cravings.

And she was a reasonable worker and didn't become fat and lazy, as some are led to believe.

My answer to your question, since you had to ask.........is a "Yes".

And you don't have to eat leftovers, just cook more of it.

Here's food for thought: $$$ is temporary but happiness in your home is priceless.

last night a friend told me that his maid is stealing and the items she steal:

1. food

2. children food

3. maybe money cos the mobile phone stored value can increase overnight... *magic* [confused]

4. misc

the maid got caught red-handed for stealing food somemore and she says she is hungry... the problem she eats 4 full meal (breakfast, lunch, tea-break dinner) everyday and now steal during early morning and night => 1 day eat 2 breakfast, 1 lunch, 1 tea-break, 1 dinner and unknown times of supper.... i was like [shocked] ... even pig also dun eat that much....

anyway has advice him to get rid of her asap... any bros and sisters got this type of experience. think maids nowadays are over-protected.

TS , whatever it is the maid is afterall a human being and being a human being can get hungry at any time of the day . Dun tell me you never eat at other time of the day except Breakfast , Lunch , Dinner ( What time you eat i dun know ) . What did your friend gave the maid for breakfast ??? One slice of bread + 1 glass of milo , have you ever ate a plate of nasi lemak during breakfast and still feel not really full ?

I myself employ a maid and i always remind her that she must eat until full and that she can eat at anytime of the day whenever she feels hungry and the only thing that i expect her to do well is to take good care of my 18 mths daughter and 4 years old son . Not all people will have the appetite to eat at that period of time and when that happens they will eat only abit but feel hungry after awhile till the next meal .

They is a saying in hokkien " Eating is bigger than a emperor " ( something like that ) as me and my wife goes to work every morning and will return only around 8pm , we will make sure that they is always something for her to eat or cook . Please TS , tell your friend to be lenient on the food things and as long as she can perform what your friend is require of her than i dun see any problem .

Just my 2 cents worth though .

aiya.. let the maid eat as much as she wants la.. just teach her children food, dont touch. ask her if hungry between meals eat bread, sure filling one..

if i'm not wrong back in their hometowns they eat rice for all their meals. even for breakfast. thats why maybe she easily hungry.

my family also no steal food policy. want to eat, just eat. but of course cannot touch the really expensive stuff.

but if chicken, the thighs and drum must leave for me and my father hahaha. [blush]

my maid eats the same food as us. and we let her eat anytime of the day.

dont have to wait for my family to finish eating.

she appreciates and works hard too.

i remember my maid break my mum's antique.

my mum went crazy.

she damn angry keep say want to send the maid back but end up never [:)] .

I think most of the bros here answer ur questions.i agreed with the food, why should we limit the food or control it when a person feels hungry.as u have mentioned that she have a lot of meals, but what is the portions?a piece of bread for breakfast or a bowl of rice with vegetables for lunch?if ur fren cant provide her with enough food then yes,he should not get any maids [shakehead] .
