Do we have too many shopping malls?

At least 5 malls opened this year with others being built. I wonder if we really need so many malls? Most have very similiar shops and the only difference is in layout. I pity those suckers who pay crazy rents and then find out business is quiet.

They are killing online business. The assumption that surrounding regions mid and rich will still shop in Singapore is just out of date model.

Just take a look at our current North-East Line route, how many shopping centers along the route.. Anyone thinks that the new City Square is too big?? They are like trying to snatch business from Mustafa..

Mustafa is 24/7. City Square is not.

Mustafa has a touristy charm in spite of (or because of) its messiness. City Square is just another standard issue mall.

I went to City Square on a Sunday afternoon and it is quite empty. Iluma is also quite empty. The only winners here are the landlords. [lipsrsealed]

wait so what u r saying is we should build less shopping malls? or we should improve the shopping malls?

why r u wondering abt the need for shopping malls? how does having more shopping malls affect u as oppose to having less? [hur]

So do i think we have too many shopping malls? absolutely no, having more malls is better, helps to spread out the crowd, especially more malls in the heartlands is good so less people in the city.... we need more malls in the heartland...
