Blackyv Turbocharged November 6, 2009 Share November 6, 2009 I held back my PhD studies so that I can make sure that I got enough time for my kiddos. I also knocked back a lot of opportunities that would take away most of my time but make my life more comfortable. You have to find that balance yourself lorz. Is your wife working too? nope.. she has stopped working for nearly 3yrs already,...after giving birth... and i try to keep it that way at least till she say "i want to work"...... ↡ Advertisement
Drive_carcar Clutched November 7, 2009 Share November 7, 2009 My wife takes care of the kids full time, sometimes I have to work till very late, at least 3 time per week. Many days I get out of home when the sky still dark, and come back way after the kids fall asleep. So I'm pretty much a weekend daddy, although once or twice a week, I made my kids squeeze in bed with us - usually in the weekends.
Mummypenguin Neutral Newbie November 7, 2009 Share November 7, 2009 Just wonder how many of you here are weekend parents? I think is getting common nowadays, 3 of my neighbours are all weekend parents. They will leave the kids with ah gong and ah ma on weekdays and only bring them home on Sat and Sun. 1 of the neighbour is lagi best, all the 7 days leave to grandparents to take care, only bring him home on Sat and Sunday afternoon and by evening send the kid back to grandparents. Last saturday i met one ah gong with his few months old granddaughter at the clinic. He complain to me about how lazy his son and daughter-in-law, the baby girl was unwell for 3 days already and yet the parents still can't be bother like that and wait until sat then bring to doc. As uusual when i ask the parents why don't bring your child back, they will say tired and they need to cope with work stress blah blah. I couldn't understand, if raising a kid is so tiring or if career is so important, then why give birth? If they are not willing to sacrifice the sleep, why want to have kid? And they can have the heart to sacrifice the old folks sleep instead. What has the world become? Nobody beats my sis-in-law & brother. They are Year-End parents. They only bring their son home on CNY eve. New year bring back to collect ang bao. 2nd day of new year dumped back to my mom. My mom says SIL is like chicken in a chicken farm where after she has laid the eggs, the conveyor belt will carry them away and taken care by others. My brother has health problem so can't exert too much. 3 sons, all the same. lazy like a pig. never cook for them. When her son was ~2 years old, my mom was away for holidays. She said doesn't know how to cook porridge , so every meal drink milk. Sometimes, my mom got senior citizens' outing so told her to take care of her sons. Her face damn black. Thug Clutched November 9, 2009 Share November 9, 2009 (edited) Depending on how old the children are. Leaving them with grandparents unless they can teach if not its better to leave them to student care centres. Children need to start early to get them ready for the future. I saw alot of examples of those not going for nursery and those who went. Drastic difference. Edited November 9, 2009 by Thug
Pokyman 1st Gear November 9, 2009 Share November 9, 2009 Always believed that as parents, we have to be there for the kids. Having a maid or parents to help take care when working is fine, or the maid cleans the house while we take care of the kids. For me, I have not been having a full 8 hour sleep for the past 16months, and I am going to have another one soon
Roh96 6th Gear November 9, 2009 Author Share November 9, 2009 currently, i sleep with wife with son in between, even with that, i'm thinking of downgrading my career so that i'll have more time for them...as i typing this post, i still in office, waiting for a 9pm teleconf... side track slightly, how much downgrading will one give up to have more time for family??.... .... i'm thinking of a career change at this point of time and that mean a 32% pay cut and adjust lifestyle slightly...from 8:30-8pm+ daily (nearly 5.5-6 days work week) to 8:30-6pm sharp (5 days)......will anyone go for it??.. ..and i might have to give up driving because of this change.......hehehe.... Are you able to work from home or dial in the conf call from home? Like u, i also need to attend night conf call(bcos working in US co.) but i can dial in from home and charge to company. At least i can be at home after 6pm and spend some time with my kids till 9pm before my wife put them to bed while i start my conf call. Having 32% pay cut is alot. Roh96 6th Gear November 9, 2009 Author Share November 9, 2009 It is encouraging to see so many hands on parents here. No doubt is tough having to cope with kids and work at the sametime but that's the role of parents. I see too many cases of weekend parents around me and many of them also outsource the job to maid, like let maid take care of baby at night, let maid accompany kids to enrichment class or music class etc. Terrible man. Tarzan666 2nd Gear November 9, 2009 Share November 9, 2009 Dats y in the 1st place, when i got married..i die die wanna find a house either near my parents or in law.. Every morning, juz walk over & pass kids to them before going to work. After work, go back in law place, have dinner, picked them up & go home. So convenient..i pity frds who have kids & stay far from parents...the journey to & fro tire them out.. but at least got parents or inlaws to help take care..some frds i knoe, either wife or hubby resigned or send baby to nanny or child care.
