Don't get 318, 320. Actually, the 320 is a decent car, but the interior is in real need of some brushing up. ↡ Advertisement

For Audi, it's either 4 cylinder or a 3.2L V6 which is not in the same class as the 2.5L inline 6 of the Beemer. You should try the 2.0TFSI quattro S-tronic of the A3/A4. Though not as smooth as the inline 6, it packs some real decent power and handling. In fact, quattro is suitable for most people. Only those are trained will be able to handle a RWD properly when pushed to the limit. For everyday driving, AWD is more practical and easier to handle. Still like the ur-quattro's 'ideal' configuration ... entry-level with 5-cylinders, NA. I wish VAG would develop a good IL-6 or IL-5 (again) to be mated with the quattro. Even if not NA, at least an SC engine, to give buyers an option, other than just sticking their guns to TC. At least there is some light at the end of Audi's tunnel, since they are surely indeed turning toward SC-only engines in their current RS range. YEESSS!!! The DSC is always there to help you out when you're about to get into trouble. And RWD will have a better 0-100km/h timing too in a drag race. To many new driver, drive fast means step on the gas all the way down. These are the people getting into trouble.

Too bad, they share engine with VW and Skoda, hence probably will not be making IL-6 again, unless they change direction. But it is not easy to change the direction of so many brandnames. If buy Audi, must buy quattro with a good differential.

Yup, an AWD - be it quattro, x-Drive, 4-Motion, whatever, is like having two (2) front/rear LSDs working together on one brain. No oversteer, with just a little understeer on the extremes (qualifier: on roads, not WRC mud tracks). No fear around bends. Audi 2.0 TFSI quattro - 0-100 6.5s BMW 325 - 0-100 7.7s Power is similar for both, but Audi's torque is 100Nm more.

The Audi today is different from the Auto Union of yesteryear. Different also from even the Audi of the 70's to mid-80's that went on to win many a WRC with its quattro implementation. Since the VW takeover in the late-80's, Audi has just become a 'glorified' VW car, IMHO. It uses the same engine, same transmission ... for some models, even the same platform and parts bin - all in the name of production efficiency and cost reduction. But where is the soul?
