Hi All,

My Toyota stock spark plug (Denso SC20HR11) got the word "Iridium" printed on it. Does that means this plug is the iridium type like tout to last for longer mileage?

unless its a fake which i doubt, it's a denso iridium and it should exhibit the properties of a denso iridium. longer life etc. As to whether the manufacturer claims are true is another matter.

pls take note normal denso iridium can last 40k only. if using normal copper sparks can last 30k.

normal ngk iridium can last 60k. makes more dollar & cents to buy normal copper or ngk iridium instead

I also wish to get normal copper type, but unfortunately that's my stock plugs [bigcry] it caused me $14 (before GST) each [:(]

I changed to Denso iridium at 40k km 2 years ago.

Now at 120k km, changed to ngk iridium....

the ride is much more smoother now..

btw,

any one know how long the ngk iridium can last?

IMO, there's no firm answer how far each spark plug can go whether they are normal or iridium or platinum coating. all the specs are on paper only. each driver has their own driving habit. so the best is to ask ur mechanic to check the plug condition periodically, ideally each service interval, or at least every 20k km.

It is good to get the mechanic to check some of these long life spark plugs during servicing of cars.

FYI, Iridium plugs can last well over 100KM under the right conditions. No fouling, under right self cleaning temp etc.

One issue of plugs wearing out is the increase in air gap which affects firing. If you have been using your plug for a long time, you should check your gap. If gap becomes bigger, just regap lor. You can do so by gently tapping the plug on a hard surface. Get a gapping tool to measure. can be bought from Autobacs.
