More child enrichment claims disproven

D*n*y offers full refunds to anyone who bought the DVDs within the LAST FIVE YEARS ... in the US. Research shows that screen time is NOT EDUCATIONAL for babies, and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no screen time for children under the age of two.

 

So much money is made of unsubstantiated claims about benefits to children. I'm curious to which of the current fads in early childhood education actually have a documented, large percentage of success rather than anecdotal, one-off claims?

 

Or, for that matter, whether theses fads actually last long enough that successful ADULTS can be found who benefitted from these programs in childhood.

 

Confession time: I HAVE actually bought these DVDs - in fact, shipped them over via Amazon when I couldn't find them for sale here, 5-6 years ago.

Child experts says TV is one way communication, and children simply cannot learn anything from "educational programs" because they are not required to talk back to the TV.

 

Anyway I will be worried if I see my kids talk to a TV.

imo, these educational tv programs need someone to join in the interaction with the kids, not leaving them there to watch on their own.

 

one example the mickey mouse show on disney channel is interactive on its own. my wife will further join in by talking to my kids and emphasize about the questions that mickey asks, if you get what i mean.

 

my kids will respond to her and mickey in the tv the answer.

aiya.. of course i know la..its not truly interactive, the character ask a question, the screen will pause a few seconds, presumely for the kids to respond. my wife's role here is to help.
