As above, my mom seems very negative abt me trading stock lately, i been trading for over a yr and nv ill treat her and i give her 2 k +/- per mth consistently from my trading but she keep nagging and say its like gambling etc, such money earn already not gd, such money take already muz return back in other ways etc many funny reasons. Ask me to stop.... But to me its like buying low selling high kind of biz, juz like what every legal biz man is doing, buy an item at low price and sell to a willing party at higher price legally. I dunno whats wrong with that.... I am someone easily affected by words esp from my parent, now her words make me very low morale and lose all my confidence and drive to trade again. 1 hr plus later trading start, i feel very down now to trade, all mood is gone. mood gone, dont trade. continue next week, mkt will always be there for you.

your mom's unconcern is not unfound.she is probably the very conservative type. if u are investing, go ahead. if u are speculating, u are just like gambling. u maybe lucky all these while, dont suay suay hit the wrong side of the market.. [lipsrsealed]

If stock trading is a sin, then Warren Buffett is a great sinner.

He didn't trade. He invest.

There is a big difference

thats why previous generations have lesser risk takers...

they rather slog all day to earn their money... they rather be the loyal employee all their careers...

not to say that working hard is not the right way, or be loyal to company is wrong... but sometimes working hard may not get the expected pay or satisfaction u want, and when bad times come, company will not be loyal to u

my experiences gathered all these years [shakehead][bigcry][bigcry]

the girl am going after also think stock trading is 'illegal business'..no matter how hard i try to explain my rationale towards investing and the future, she always gives me the look whenever she sees me staring at the SGX and charts.

what's the best way to explain to her?

WB is a manipulator while the TS here is just a speculator.

pls don't compare a proton to a RR. that's such an insult.

what yr mom is trying to tell u is that trading stocks for a living is not a stable career for long term......

today u can make big big, trmw u can lose your pants....

your mom is worried abt your future. she doesn't know how to explain to you yet. but that's her point......

i got close friends and relatives who went through this.... sometimes i really pity them....

when they make big, they're REALLY BIG $$...... but now..... their heads tilt down when ppl talked abt stock markets in front of them....

sell house, sell everything, and stay in tiny HDB flat..... and even got to beg HDB for the flat due to financial crisis and bank seizures.....

be careful bro..... your galfriend will not have a sense of security to be married to you.

i know how the gal feels coz i talked to my friends' wives... they all shared the same sentiments. everyday they were worried abt family finances

its better to have a stable job for long term plans.... play stocks as only a part time thingy.

then why work ?

work is also a sin what.

man is born to be free ... running in the jungle

not chained behind a desk and facing a grumpy boss.

dont kid yourself lah.

if you have difficulty believing me , go to the atm and withdraw all you earnings in cash.

Hold it in your hands for 1 min. Smell it if necessary.

Then you tell me if it is a sin to have earned that money or better not to have earned it at all.

in the meantime ... keep your eyes on the screen.

Citibank just gained another 6cts

Whether speculative trading or investing is a sin, one should judge from the intention, not just action. If the intention is to make additional $$$ to give your kids more financial security in future, why is that a sin?

But the purpose is to indulge in luxury life and splurge, then it may be a sin by "divine" standard.

Actually stocks trading can be considered a gambling if you are buying it based on gut-feel and hoping it will go up and quickly sell for a profit.

Other than that, its called an investment. Investment = calculated risk.

True.

To me, I always believe money talks when it comes to employment, just like business. Loyalty is only applicable if that company has helped me out of deep s--t.

Loyalty is earned. Not given.

Trading in stocks is a legal activity.

Morally.. it is not wrong as everyone in the trading circle knows what they are up to.

The situation becomes complicated when share prices motivates people within the company to do something ethicallly wrong, just look at Enron. It affects employees' life when bosses's renumeration becomes to peg to shares price (share options) instead of real profits.

Trading is not a sin, but not knowing when to stop is a sin . I trade for fun, i have a stable job , i trade so that my mum can monitor for me. My mum is retired everyday stay at home watch tv, water plants enjoy life buy 4D and toto , now she can even tell me which stocks to look out for. She also started reading business times to find out more, but we do not gamble , we only put in a few ks which we can afford to lose and let it grows from there, i take is as an exercise for her mind. Not very good to have elderly people not doing anything , they have a higher risk of being senile
