Yattokame 4th Gear October 21, 2009 Share October 21, 2009 Hi all, am looking for a GPS for my uncle. dun need super high end with map of mars, the moon, venus, etc; but something with hokkien/cantonese/japanese multi language would keep the man entertained for a while Can anyone recommend a place where there is a huge collection of GPS to choose from? Couldn't find any shops like this in Sim Lim Square. Only saw one but they dun have a huge collection. budget? 200-ish. of course the cheaper the better. thanx :) ↡ Advertisement
Gturismo Neutral Newbie October 21, 2009 Share October 21, 2009 You can ask him to buy those 150 gps which I saw at Xtra Jurong point. But not sure if they have cantonese/japanese/hokkien. I know Garmin basic model is around 190+ and it has the languages you want.
Beehive3783 Turbocharged October 21, 2009 Share October 21, 2009 get a refurbished Garmin 255W from Amazon. USD129.99 only. Shipping won't cost you more than SGD30. But you need to use those courier services like vpost, comgateway, etc to ship the GPS over, cos Amazon don't do international shipping for GPS devices. Iziz Clutched October 21, 2009 Share October 21, 2009 http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/sg/c...0D06A8B0B9506C5 My advice is to stick to ADs, the savings from PI units is quite negligible. A t least there is an avenue to seek redress shld something screw up.
Stdfrank 1st Gear October 21, 2009 Share October 21, 2009 (edited) Why not consider buying a phone with GPS feature, nowdays plenty to choose from... I recommend buying those running on Windows Mobile and you can install GPS software mapking/garmin, very good one . Cmwmsoh Neutral Newbie October 21, 2009 Share October 21, 2009 Quite worthwhile to get an AD Garmin unit, you can check here for the type of updates they're giving. http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/sg At the end of the day, a GPS unit is only as good as whether the map is updated to reflect latest roads. The plus point for Garmin is also that it supports a large variety of languages, which should suit your need. And of course, for more information, the usual malsingmaps and/or malfreemaps would help too.
Beehive3783 Turbocharged October 25, 2009 Share October 25, 2009 junction view is only a gimmick. besides, if junction view is really desired, just flash the firmware. but then TS wants something simple, thus i dun think junction view is a requirement. Gnayed Clutched October 25, 2009 Share October 25, 2009 Try PaPaGo. Taiwan based GPS. Interface wise Garmin is still the killer for usability, though it is from Taiwan too. PaPaGo uses Garmin maps too, so you will not have update problems/issues considering both MalsingMaps & MalfreeMaps are providing precise updates now & then. Quite useful according to my usage when I go Msia. My understanding is tat JCV is something tat cannot be "flashed" in but I stand corrected though. Yups, agree tat JCV is a 'want' rather den a 'need'. ↡ Advertisement
