Thargor 1st Gear October 21, 2009 Share October 21, 2009 Just wanna see the opinions/viewpoints of the bro/sister here. Say you are in your mid 30s with a basic degree and in your current role, you are already the subject matter expert but you don't see yourself making another major milestones. While the job pay decent at 6+, it is not much in the bigger scheme of things and its basically a career gone stagnant. With typical retirement age at 60 and above, I have like 25 years more to go. I am just thinking maybe it's time to pave the way for a 2nd career, doing something totally different but sustainable which I can continue doing without fear of losing my job when i hit my late 40s or early 50s. If you are in my shoes, what kinda 2nd career will you be considering? ↡ Advertisement

However, not sure if my lack of a Masters will be a handicap. Lecturing with poly can be an option but not with primary/secondary school (I think i will break more rules with MOE than the students lol)

Well bro, my passion since school days has always been marketing analytics/data mining/business intelligence/marketing research and the likes. Since I started work, I have always pursued where my passion calls. But I guess maybe I am at the age where mid-life crisis is hovering over my head and constantly nagging me to take stock of my life. Yes I have always followed my passion and my passion has carried me this far...but it's coming to the ending line soon. Starting to feel that I am running around in circles if you know what I mean. Financial security for my family is at the top of my mind really. Guess I am looking at the type of job that rewards financially if you are willing to go out all. My current career, well I can chiong all the way but end of the day the financial rewards is pathetic and being recognised as a subject matter expert has lost its meaning to me long ago. I am actually consider doing property agent on a part time basis. chiong as much as I can and if it pays off, I can consider doing it full time but not before I can better my current income. Why property agent? Well I think I can still do it when I am in my late 40s and 50s...and experience definitely counts in that line. Guess I will at least try out for a year part time before I seriously consider doing it fulltime. Am I being realistic? Am I being realistic? you've answered the question yourself. i dont think anybody here can offer much more than what you have said. you already know who you are, what you want, how to go about it, why are you still asking? if its assurances you need, i think you've got mine. not like that counts for alot

And there are many bros and sisters here who had went through what I am undergoing now...it will be good to learn from their experience and advice. I think property agent is great and have been considering it too. I agree that the best career will be a job that you chiong and get the financial rewards according to the afford put in. In the end of the days $$$ count more then being recognised

In the end of the days $$$ count more then being recognised Hehe that's exactly what I told my wife....told her that since I am still not too old to make a new start, I will like to try something that I can chiong and see results. I know that being a property agent will be a tough job....and tougher to do it part time. But I will stick to the mentality that if I dont make money, its because I havent tried hard enough. Until I can convince myself that I am cut out for it, I will only do it part time while holding on to a full time job. ↡ Advertisement
