Ken_leong 2nd Gear October 19, 2009 Share October 19, 2009 Read on hurricane website. using it can expect 10% more milege really true? Definitely No, cos your engine 'breathes' easier so you may tend to step on your accelerator more often so mileage depends on you. also claims its as good as open pod performance? No idea. Haven't try open pod yet. no oling needed so it must be better than K&N. No oiling if you getting the stainless steel type. SS type just need to use air gun and blow it clean. Conclusion: IMHO: One can definitely find the difference between stock and non-stock air filter(I definitely won't be changing back so soon). But since all non-stock filters are not as good as filtering compared to stock, you gota go change engine oil more regularly.

ILNivleK Neutral Newbie October 21, 2009 Share October 21, 2009 If you want open pod and on AT transmission, be prepared to lose low-end. On HKS or other performance exhaust will lose even more low end. I'm on HKS + Hurricane Drop in. Low end loss can be minimised by tuning and keeping rim size small, my rim size is 15". Cheers. I dunno anything abt exhaust, care to enlighten why HKS or other performance exhaust reduce low end performance? Cos i thinking of changing to HKS for my AT vios
SaNibOy Clutched October 22, 2009 Share October 22, 2009 Bcos performance exhaust is a straight thru setup with big diameter. For MT cars, tis is good but not for AT cars. Unless the diameter is smaller. Same goes for extractor. AT use 4-2-1 better rather than 4-1.

Cos i thinking of changing to HKS for my AT vios Are you in VOGS? You can find out more there. I'm in there too. If you intend to change to HKS, low end will suffer, especially AT car. You must be able to endure the HKS exhaust roar. Haha. Esp if you got CO, wait CO will complain. To minimise low end loss, you can 1. change extractor from stock 4-1 to aftermarket 4-1, or a 4-2-1 even better. Take note that aftermarket 4-1 and 4-2-1 not LTA compliant. 2. add CAI. I have CAI, not sure if it helps but at night when the air is cool, pickup must better. 3. Keep rims at 15". 4. Add piggyback and tune. I'm on Unichip Q. I've gained 12bhp more than the stock 109bhp as stated for the current belta vios with the above setup after dyno-ing. Hope the information above helps. Cheers. Thanks for the info I'm currently on stock, changing extractor may not be a good thing when coming to inspection. I'm interested in getting CAI and unichip, do u have any recommendation and estimation cost? I'm using 17" lightweight rims thou thanks

For my case, after i changed my extractor and exhaust, i dyno-ed and got 5bhp above stock. But it's best to get a piggyback to get a significant improvment in bhp and/or torque. Cheers. I'm interested in getting CAI and unichip, do u have any recommendation and estimation cost? I'm using 17" lightweight rims thou thanks If you do piggyback with only CAI + your current mods, I think the increase in bhp will not be that significant. It's the extractor and exhaust that makes the significant difference. CAI you can DIY, or people can do for you between 50-100, depending on type of tube you want. For piggyback, Unichip Q cost around 800-900 with dyno-tuning. It would be better if you can find a second hand one for ard 300-400. Dyno-tuning will cost 100 per hour for rental of dyno-machine, plus tuner fee, which can be between 200-300? Road-tuning should be cheaper, only tuner feel. Cheers. ↡ Advertisement
