There are many cars withe a turbo that is also in the 8 second range or slower..The VW group cars with the 1.2 and 1.4 TSi engine...Audi with the 1.8T engine...Merc class with the 1.8T engine...

Just because a car is turbocharged doesn't mean a car have to be performance oriented. Modern engines use turbocharging to achieve the same power of a bigger unit but with lower emissions and fuel consumption. EU tax their cars based on CO2 emission so you see the European car manufacturers leading the way here, notably VW group. 30-40 years ago yes, only high-performance cars are turbocharged. If a person still think that turbocharged cars have to be high performance, then his mentality is outdated by 30-40 years.

[laugh] Exactly. Some people simply thinks that turbo must be exclusive to certain makes or models if not they are poseurs. Typical I can have it because I'm rich mentality. [rolleyes]

I just recalled Scirocco non-sport is not only turbo charged, it is supercharged as well. Still an 8 seconds car despite being boosted from low to high end all the way. [laugh] [laugh]

But the point is, the Scirocco 1.4 stock already comes with supercharger & turbocharger. The Koup has to deliberately install a turbocharger (possibly illegally) unit.

Turbo are not exclusive to certain makes, obviously. Just that you need to go through a lot of paper work from the authorities to get it done. Most people would not bother with the trouble.

If people wants to go illegal that is their problem. It has nothing to do whether stock scirocco has turbo or not. What I am trying to point out is that a turbo car need not be super fast be it illegal or legal as long it suits the driver's needs. But certain scirocco owner don't see it that way and disses it without looking at himself in the mirror. [rolleyes]

I certainly have no disagreement with that. Guess I misintepreted his comments.

eh don't get me wrong. scirocco 1.4TSI 8s is not fast or something to shout about.

just that i find the guy with the bolted on turbo kit abit weird. why not just get a scirocco? he bought it when koup just launched, scirocco price not very far away at then.

let's see, a bolt on turbo kit with a BOV equate to a bull load of mods? Not sure if everyone can agree to that. Maybe he went for a small turbo with light boost. Is it a must for turbo cars to have a century sprint below 5 seconds? Your car has a turbo too and its still in the 8 second range too isn't it?

looks like it's not good to tell others what you drive, even in a car forum. because whatever statement these people make, most others will think they are using their own car as a benchmark.

i never brought in comparison of my own scirocco. never thought 8s is something big deal too [:p]

sorry again if i caused some misunderstanding [laugh]

oh, i didn't state it was a must for turbo cars to be seriously fast too. read my previous post, thanks, happy CNY!

My friend bought a white koup 1.6 manual at 59,999 during the launch period. Normal black plate

Was the scirocco ever priced near there?

the lime green koup is 2L manual. i tried looking up history pricing for koup 2L, 2010 may roughly 85k then. scirocco 1.4TSI is 113k before discount (usually 7-9k discount)

near to scirocco pricing then in my opinion, others im not sure. koup 2L pricing was never really far from scirocco 1.4TSI, given the discounts VCS give after the listed price.

i thought in this forum, there're some Koup owners who say they could have gotten scirocco since same price bracket or so. but a matter of preference. another evidence.

that bolt on turbo kit cost a few grand as well btw. + other mods

[laugh]

Even with your figures and the discount, scirocco is still a whole 20k away from a 2 litre koup.

To me. In absolute terms, 20k is a lot of money and definitely not within price range

20k is alot in my opinion. but buying a cheaper car then add on mods (another source of costs, at least a few grand) + time effort spent and the chance that you may not even achieve that 8s of a 1.4TSI golf or scirocco + stability and warranty issues. after these considerations, 20k is more worth it. but to each his own lah, i respect. like those who bought koup and said scirocco was within their budget but it was a matter of preference, i also respect their choice. some will bother argue scirocco or golf is a much better choice (conti car, performance, built quality, looks etc), i don't bother [laugh]

Yep. To each his own.

That was the message I trying to convey all these while.

actually there are other advantages for choosing a koup over a scirocco

- koup seats 5

- koup is brand new in the market (at that time)

- korean technology vs lousy conti

- 20k savings now could mean a more superior conti for your next car

if you want space and more seats, get a people carrier like MPV or the forte sedan. a coupe doesnt fit your bill in this case. well brand new, this is hard to judge. the scirocco isnt very old when koup was just launched. credit to both though, their later batches come with improved features, for e.g new sportier steering wheel, centre console buttons, RNS510 headunit etc for scirocco, while koup recently also have new 6AT gearbox. lousy conti technology.. the 1.4TSI twincharge have won several awards for its economical use + substantial performance from low RPM. the issue is the 7speed DSG which was problematic but later resolved + longer warranty. it has its issues but i wldnt call it "lousy" just like that. my brother's koup also have its own problems. so both equally the same lah [cool]

20k savings... if you want to save that much, then don't get a car. use all that 60-80k otherwise on a koup to buy something else. just look at how many people selling their koup now. new car and 2nd hand price not much different, easy for interested car buyers which path to take right? oh superior conti? i thought you said lousy conti technology :D

anyways, people who buy koup most probably will want to justify their purchases. same goes for scirocco owners. others who own other car models, try to justify but they don't know the real advantages or disadvantages, since we only have 5-10mins time for test drive + SE only tells you the good stuffs and the rest is internet research, which is still of others' opinions. i have both cars at home, drive them frequently and i can safely say that i made the right decision with a scirocco.

im sure a koup will make someone very happy. same goes for a scirocco, or any other coupe that falls within same price range or category. happy CNY! [laugh]
