Kyojin 1st Gear October 15, 2009 Share October 15, 2009 (edited) ILLEGAL Edited October 15, 2009 by Kyojin
Unfair 3rd Gear October 15, 2009 Share October 15, 2009 Its illegal, so many things are illegal in SG.. haiz. I think because LTA cannot earn from it. It is actually beneficial to change to HID. Brighter lights mean other people can see you coming from far, reducing chance of accidents. Easier to see for the driver Are durable, reliable and require significantly less maintenance compared to halogen * Can operate for approximately 2500 hours in an automotive application compared to 1000 hours for halogen headlights. * Are much less sensitive to shock and vibration than halogen headlamps, since they do not have the coil filaments used in halogen bulbs. * Use approximately 25 percent less power than halogen headlights Bad points is if not aligned properly, you risk dazzling/blinding other drivers. So choose a responsible installer that can align for you.

So choose a responsible installer that can align for you. why must everything be linked to govt no earning money? i think people need to think harder when making such comments. it's true for many things, but not for others. this is one of the examples. HID conversions are illegal because it's a SAFETY issue. period. even the Europe, it's illegal to retrofit HID. all HID headlamps must have auto-leveling mechanisms. conventional halogen bulb housings do not have this and cannot be retrofitted - unless the whole housing is changed. there is also requirement for headlamp washers for HID headlamps. and the benefits you mentioned stands true ONLY IF it's a proper factory-fitted installation. you also forgot to add that it's significantly more expensive to change HID bulbs. although it has 2 times more the lifespan, the bulbs also cost similarly more. headlights are not only for people to see you coming. it's for drivers to see what's ahead. therefore, in singapore's context, you do not need that kind of intensity - since it's very well-lit. having bright lights will BLIND other road users, so what's the point? if you notice, factory-fitted HID lights are not that bright/dazzling when you look at it from a distance. however, the same can't be said of retro-fitted HID kits. i think LTA should impose stiffer penalties for HID modifications. Watwheels Supersonic October 19, 2009 Share October 19, 2009 This I agree. Although my car comes with HID, I keep the bulbs as it's, less bright and yellow cos the yellow light can penetrate thru the rain further while white light just scatter and reduce the light penetration distance. As for TS, dun convert for safety issues. Next time just get a car that comes with HID.
Kangadrool Supersonic October 19, 2009 Share October 19, 2009 (edited) Whether it's legal or illegal, PLEASE DO NOT CONVERT TO HID FOR ALL ROAD USERS SAKE!!!!! IT'S FARKING IRRITATING. Our roads are so well lit. Go further up North where roads are badly lit and you hardly see people convert to HID. It's a double edge sword. Will cause drivers in front to slow down unnecessarily and caused all road users to misjudge distance leading to accidents. Please also dun KPKB when you'd installed HID and drivers in front of you are crawling (it's blinding him/her).
