Hey all seniors!

I have encounter this problem ocassionally:

1)

Normally, When i drive with AC on, the idling is at 1200-1300, and when i off my AC, its at 700-800 .

But i had this problem yesterday (again..had this a few times liao) after driving for 10mins, i decided to off my AC during a jam, then my idle falls to 200-400 suddenly, and engine stall and cut off eveything! scary! but when i turn my AC on the idle went up to 800 and car is back to normally but brakes and ride felt weird.

What seems to be the problem?

2)

Whenever after i parked my car, i will let it cool down and idle for 2mins without my AC, then similar problem occurs ocassionally - the engine will then idle low similar as above 200-400, and it will cut off by itself...

Anyone can help?

Sounds like serious pinging or pre-detonation ! Go to Saber or any other mech to get your ignition timing checked. Btw you pump octane 92 petrol isit?

That's called "pinking" (hope I got the spelling correct) and it happens when your fuel does not have the required octane to resist pre-ignition. What typre of petrol you pumping? 92,95 or 98? If on 92 or 95, try going up to 98 and see if the sound goes away. It should. If you're already on 98, then it's one of 2 options.

a) Your cylinder head was previously skimmed to the point that the Compression Ratio is way too high. In this case, you may need a replacement cylinder head that does not have such high CR. Alternatively, you can see if your current head can be ported and polished to reduce the CR somewhat so that it can work with lower RON petrol. The porting and polishing needs a good mechanic who knows what the hell he's doing, so if don't have, then better shelve the idea.

b) The combustion chamber in your engine has accumulated a lot of carbon deposits which are contributing to raise CR. They also glow hot when heated and encourage pre-ignition. This one just requires decarbonising the combustion chamber.

I hope you just need to raise your RON on the petrol.

Just saw Niltrams post and he's right. Could be the ignition timing as well. My oversight - sorry.

Hi, I pump ron97 in JB. Do I need change to v-power?

Are you using Petronas? My Mini used to ping on Petronas 97 but not on ESSO 97 or CALTEX 97. Give ita try and see if it works.

JB V-Power also RON97.

Just get it checked at a mechanic, there's many things that may have spoilt; distributor, faulty sparks, wrong ignition timing, worse case is engine chui. And it gets chui-er and chui-er over time, no such thing as problem goes away.

Waaa like tat ....... sound very serious then. I think I should take half day leave to get my mech to look into this again.

bro after our PMs last nite and seeing this thread, you need a SU or weber carb IMMEDIATELY...

you are experiencing pinging or pre-detonation. you should pump 97 or 98 RON and get more fuel.

prolong pinging will destroy your engine.

Agreed frst to go is the spark plugs better sort it out fast.
