1fast1 Supersonic October 13, 2009 Share October 13, 2009 The first Blackadder is rather slapstick, but the character gets more sardonic (and the comedy consequently better) in the later series. I especially like Blackadder goes Forth (the WW1 series). ↡ Advertisement
Darth_mel 1st Gear October 13, 2009 Author Share October 13, 2009 "Only when I laugh" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077057/ Never watched that one myself (at least not that I recall). When you mentioned hospital-based sitcoms, I was thinking of the "Doctor in the House" series - that was funny. Darth - when I first saw your thread title I was all ready to recommend Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister. Until I read your post. Still, if you haven't read the books based on the series, do pick them up, they're even funnier in print form, in my humble opinion. Also check out Fawlty Towers - not too cerebral, but not ridiculous like 'Allo 'Allo either. Somehow never really got into Monty Python - I still think Fawlty Towers is Cleese's best work. Can't find "Doctor in the House" online leh. I know the actor was also the teacher in "Mind Your Language" Monty Python is too mindless. Can't get into it. Never like John Cleese much either cos. Find him c0cky. I can't read these days....too preoccupied with too many things. Watching is the next best thing I'm afraid.

I especially like Blackadder goes Forth (the WW1 series). That's the saddest episode. Mr Bean tried to keng but failed. lan lan gotta cheong battlefield in the end. Another favorite is "Jeeves and Wooster" Really like the chemistry between a both young Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie. :) Edited October 13, 2009 by Darth_mel
Benarsenal Turbocharged October 13, 2009 Share October 13, 2009 Another recent British sitcom that's not that well-known but quite nice is The IT Crowd. Recently shown on Star World.

Seen few episodes of it. Find the jokes forcefully done. I guess they dun have good script-writers there anymore.

Silver_blade Turbocharged October 13, 2009 Share October 13, 2009 (edited) Not bad if you consider it is made for British's Channel 4 which is a 'cheap' channel...often showing soft-porn or some really old Bruce Lee classic after midnight. Watch a couple of it...not too bad. Edited October 13, 2009 by Silver_blade
Darth_mel 1st Gear October 13, 2009 Author Share October 13, 2009 (edited) Try Little Britain.. Have the DVD courtesy of Pantip Plaza. Dun find it intelligent. Occasionally funny, most of the time not. Hate it when that fat guy plays the retarded on a wheelchair or the fast talking bitch. But still thanks for all the recommendations here, everyone. :) Edited October 13, 2009 by Darth_mel

Four4s 1st Gear October 14, 2009 Share October 14, 2009 You can try: 1. Black Books, which is typically british quirkiness 2. Spaced 3. League of gentlemen, which has a huge cult following... It's difficult to find a wittier man than Stephen Fry in the UK though. ↡ Advertisement
