I don't find it underpower (subjective) or expensive (again subjective). But I find the rear very cramp.

Some sedans (eg Optra) has a bigger leg room at the back

What's up with that man?

very honestly. If i hv cash just enough to pay in full for a 318i, i wont buy a 318i.

Pertaining to your question. Max i would go is half equity half debt. Definitely not full debt.

most of the time i wont be bothered, just pay cash.

Not just being hypothetical here.

what is the reason why u would pay cash up front, or max half debt half euqity?

and why not full debt? rationale?

Is always good to have cash in hand - even if financing a bit more expensive, cash in hand can be used for other things - generate income and if cash flow from normal work becomes tight, can still make payment for some time. basically it would be for liquidity (can always sell car but it is not liquid)

I think it is a good choice for entry level BMW. Afterall it is still a 3 series and the design and look is still very appealing to many ppl. Anyway if he is comfortable with the price, i don't see anything wrong with it. Heck care what ppl say about badge whole or what.

do bear in mind that the 318i is to replace the existing 320i...it uses a 2.0L 143bhp engine...not the 118i 136bhp 1.8L engine...

the new 320i uses the 2.0L 170bhp engine...up from 156bhp previously...(but frankly...the last 320i was really underpowered which takes away the fun of driving totally...)

don't be confused...

Ur info is almost all wrong. Both 318 & 118 is using the same detune N46B20. On the other hand, the 170hp 2L engine is not available outside Europe. This is a Direct Injection engine.

all tis talk abt underpower blar blar......qns is: R u able to go in full or half throttle in a corner, or juz keep on tapping on e brakes to slow down. If no ability to control, give u 1000bhp also no use [sleeping]

I talk underpower because i always exceed speed limit exiting expressway. I clocked before 61km/h (based on LED display) on Bedok South Exit stuck behind a car. Rather after the display, i further gun my throttle.

When i talk underpower, i mean abiltiy to react to changing traffic condition.

The Direct Injection 2L 170hp eninge is doing well with Singapore high sulphur fuel.

No issues with the many PI cars with this engine so far.

Car is not like a wife.

Car is only like girlfriends.

You want it hot, able to do crazy things, and you feel thrilling to get into it. When you're bored just change another and walk away.

Those who talked about reliability is like looking for a girl friend who alway get the dinner ready on time.....

I don't these car has been on the road that long, so, i have my reservation. In USA, Porsche Cayman wif Direct Injection has issue with intake port choked up. Most of these cars are involved in daily start stop traffic only.

Many take their cars as wives.

Its when you can compare wife to car that got problem...

If wife like Ferrari fine, if wife like taxi (everybody been inside, smoky and smelly) then got headache

Incidentally that reminds me of joke,

what's the difference between a bitch and a slut?

A slut has slept with everybody in the office, while a bitch has slept with everyone in the office except you

The 318i has only 136 bhp while the 320i has slightly more at 150 bhp. We don't get the 170 bhp 1995cc direct injection engine here. And you're also wrong that the 118i is a 1.8l, all use the same 1995cc engine.

Yes..... just to add also that BMW is using High Precision Injection in their engines for the European Market. That is why you find that the Asian market 318i generates only 136HP as compared to 146 HP in their European counterparts. 118i is using the same 1995cc engine.

but you are driving a 5-series right? your E39 520i uses the 2.2L engine not the current 2.0L 156bhp engine right??

i think the 2.2L engine is a better one...

the 3-series is actually much smaller than the C-Class...how come you say you can't get into the C-Class??

did you adjust the seats or something?

yes i agree...the interior for the 318i and previous 320i was really cheapo...didn't give you that upmarket feeling...

sorry to disappoint.

my E39 is preFL so it is 2L engine, not the FL 2.2L

it is a 1996 car. but still IL6 not IL4

hmm ... maybe my height is playing tricks on me.

i will go check out the C again. I quite like the looks compared to the 320.

so u are saying you will pay 100% cash upfront rather than an interest free 10 year loan, simply because you feel better about it. cos that's all i gathered from ur response

good luck with that mentality, well all i can say is you will be paying a heavy price to feel good

to each their own, if you feel better that way then nothing more i can say except that i find that irrational as this is $100k, not just a few thousands
