Leepee 1st Gear January 10, 2010 Share January 10, 2010 So the air show car is not really cheap or worth it? Best time is to buy at year end, clearance sale time? ↡ Advertisement
inlinesix Hypersonic January 10, 2010 Share January 10, 2010 Not just for the airshow. The E90 318i, since it was brought into SG sevaral many months ago, has always been made in Germany ... unlike the 320i and upward E90 models (all African). UNIQUELY SINGAPORE!! For Asia Pacific export program, all E90 are made in South Africa. As there is no country in Asia sell 318, it has to be imported from Germany. Begger_king Neutral Newbie January 19, 2010 Share January 19, 2010 Hihi, I am new here. Wanna ask you guys, how do you think a 318 compares to an alfa 159 in terms of the below: 1) maintenance/reliability 2) drive 3) price worthiness =)
Shimada Clutched January 19, 2010 Share January 19, 2010 power is point of view, i drove 320i also think it is slow. i guess it's the problem of the auto gearbox, so sluggish... it might be powerful for him, if he drove like an 18secs to 100km/h car before this 318i. but handling wise for that range, no one can win BMW. Front passenger comfort and refinement is also excellent, but not so good for the rear passengers, rear wheel well noise and exhaust noise not muted well. alot of things depends on your point of view, some think BMWs are crap, some things they are the best, most likes them for the brand, low spec BMWs are not worth the money, the higher specs ones like 335i or M3 or M5 are brilliant, but how many people can afford them... nothing tells people that you are doing pretty well in life than a branded car like the BMW, but think again, how many people took 100% loans for them, and when they come to sell the car, they can't pay the differences in interest and the resale value of the car. but as along as you are happy, do it, why care what others think? Begger_king Neutral Newbie January 19, 2010 Share January 19, 2010 (edited) Front passenger comfort and refinement is also excellent, but not so good for the rear passengers, rear wheel well noise and exhaust noise not muted well. Really? I tot the 318 is considerably comfortable even for the rear passengers? And i did not know about the exhaust noise...I know the 159 (tested it last wk) is quite noisy, but it is all part of the sporting feel thing... And the electronics are a big headache. brother if you claim you dun know too much then how you know maintenance is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE and electronics are a BIG headache? IMO maintenance is more expensive than your average Jap car and electronics are manageable issues, definitely not a headache. If one cannot afford to drive BMW, then please buy other brands. That is all.
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 both C-Class and 3-series have really loud tyre noise...like not insulated... ride of the 3-series is definitely harsher than the C-Class...the BMW sends the road irregularities and bumps straight to passengers... in the C-Class, you feel the harshness of the road, but damping is really good... space wise, both 3-series and C-Class about the same la...but C-Class is that little bit wider in the rear...that said, rear legroom is still cramp though... fake leather in the 318i is really low grade...and the barren specs really makes you a cheapskate person... i tested the 320i 156bhp...though 0-100kph takes 9.6s, it was really sluggish to me...felt like driving a 1.6L car... C-Class feels more powerful due to supercharging on the C200k and turbocharge on the C180 Blue-efficiency... A4 is just lifeless to drive...no fun... Sony 1st Gear January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 very very hard leather seats. lack of leg room. poor insulation. cannot compare to A4 / C-class it's not even leather to start with but hey, a basic A4 is going for 135k and a C180 is 144k...while the 318 is going for 111k.. so it's not a fair fight. and I say it again, it's still a BMW. I will take it over the Camry, Accord and Teana which are cheaper by about 6-7K.
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 yes...but the 3-series is the size of a Corolla Altis... if you want to compare with Camry/Accord, must compare with 5-series... eitherway, if you want a BMW, you should get a 5-series and above model...no point getting an 'entry-level' BMW... what are you trying to say about yourself?? Too poor to afford a proper BMW, yet want to own a BMW-badged car??
Viceroymenthol 6th Gear January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 correct me if i am wrong. C180 BE is currently also supercharged, albeit from 1.6L engine. Maybe next time will have turbo version. C180 BE uses lighter materials, ie: thinner windshield, less insulation, etc and lowered springs for higher aerodynamics... maybe that's why it feels more agile and faster. A4 is quite fun, for what it is - a FWD turbocharged sedan. You should try to put it thru the difficult parts of the bends and road... and you can switch to the dynamic mode for tighter responsive steering and firmer dampening suspension.. if you dun try you will never know, only hearsay. both C-Class and 3-series have really loud tyre noise...like not insulated... ride of the 3-series is definitely harsher than the C-Class...the BMW sends the road irregularities and bumps straight to passengers... in the C-Class, you feel the harshness of the road, but damping is really good... space wise, both 3-series and C-Class about the same la...but C-Class is that little bit wider in the rear...that said, rear legroom is still cramp though... fake leather in the 318i is really low grade...and the barren specs really makes you a cheapskate person... i tested the 320i 156bhp...though 0-100kph takes 9.6s, it was really sluggish to me...felt like driving a 1.6L car... Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 3-series at least a 325i la...for proper fun and driving...you'll need the power to complement the excellent chassis dynamics... 5-series at least a 525i la...cos the 520i is really underpowered, and to a certain extent, noisy engine...have to rev to get a move on fast... C180 BE is a 1.6Turbocharged engine...Merc not using supercharged anymore, just to let you know... if the new 5-series does not have a 2.5L base model, sales is sure gonna hurt...everybody go over Merc to buy E-Class... Audi is really lifeless and does not have character...the looks are boring and interior messy...

Too poor to afford a proper BMW, yet want to own a BMW-badged car?? If a person can afford a BMW, they can afford an camry or accord. but person that can afford a camry/accord, MIGHT not be able to afford a BMW. and a car is not just determined by the size or value and different people have different criteria to buying a car... it's easy for internet hero to say that hey, for BMW, it's have to be inline 6 or blab blab blab but in reality, how many actually brought a 323 or 325? and for 5 series, why is it that PML have stop bringing in 523 but is selling a 520 now? it's a different ballgame. and if buying a 318 is considered poor, i wonder how you term people that is driving a car worth less than the 318. does it hit on your raw spot? and hey, i'm not even bringing the superb or the much smaller size jetta that is featured packed into the picture. ↡ Advertisement
