Adrianli Hypersonic October 8, 2009 Share October 8, 2009 I pity u guys in the army. In the Navy, very good food onboard ship. The worst was fish finger, chicken patty and fried rice. The best was chilli crab during my time. We had char kway teow, laksa, prawn noodles, fish ball noodles, teochew porridge, chicken rice, etc daily. You will never get hungry onboard the ship. I've not knowingly chosen sardine at a mealtime, since those days. The smell stays on your fingers, fieldpack, anything you touch, for days. We used to joke that the enemy would not need high-tech snooping equipment to find us, just working noses....

You know why they called the biscuits hard tack? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardtack Those things used to bring on 3 days of constipation! I guess it was a benefit in the field as you'd not need to deposit waste so often....

Haha - most BMT sergeants didn't actually get out on field exercises after their SAFINCOS courses. But they're very good at pretending they did.... With the hard tack, a 'barely' palatable version was putting in the chocolate bar and water together with the biscuits in a mess tin. Chocolate porridge. I never figured out why they issued those cheap chocolate bars which melted after the first hour in the field.... ↡ Advertisement
