Australia: Car Rental in Perth

That Infiniti QX80 is a scary beast. I wouldn't want to be driving in front of it.

The height of the bonnet is at my chest level and I am 1.88m tall...damn.

I'm 1.8 m. You still win a lot.

I almost needed a ladder to climb onto that QX80.

I wonder to travel 100 km, how much $$ of petrol will be needed.

Curious whether here got anyone bought yet... have not seen one yet that's for sure.

If look for travel insurance with high rental car excess, should go for those with $2k.  $2k excess is enough to cover the excess of rental car company.

No diff btw 1500 and 2000 in terms of premium.

Got any recommendation for travel insurance that covers $2k excess?

My normal contact said even for premium plan, only $1k (normal is $500 only)...

Remember to buy a car mount from Miniso at 3.90 if you intend to use your phone as GPS. The cars don't have any accessories.

When I was there, there was a promo for Optus - 12GB for 20 AUD.

I bought from directasia. Rental excess coverage is $1500. Highest I could find.

Searched NTUC, MSIG, Aviva, FWD and directasia.

Hahaha, when one can buy a QX80, petrol is never a concern for them.

Yah, i'm sure all (almost) SUVs if got 3 rows of seats, sure got v little luggage left one. A colleague drove an old XC90. 3rd row leg room was a joke, but at least got bit boot space for luggage. I doubt any other 7-seater SUVs will have more space.

Exception is maybe the infiniti giant SUV i saw at car@expo recently. Can't remember boot, but that vehicle got space... 8-seater some more.

Yah so safer bet to go with carnival.

Although driving suv looks more garang haha

Directasia is not only car insurance? It does travel and other insurance too?

i mountain tortoise, always thought they only deal with car insurance...

You're right. QX80 owners sure can afford petrol...

immediately shows that it's a peasant trying to think like elite  [laugh]

Actually i asked partly cos if ever got available for rental, whether i can afford the petrol if renting the monster. People look at this sure impressed...

ok. Very useful. Very affordable too.

But must ask my contact whether they can get this or not...

tks...

Thanks. Very useful.

We're definitely getting sim card(s). Was going to check out the options.

For this deal, is it only data? Got number to call one or not? And the 12 GB got time/duration one, or used finish then auto cut-off?

Just go to their website and buy it.  Generally, there is at least 20% discount for travel insurance from most insurers.

Hi,

It comes with unlimited Aussie calls. Useful for calling my apartment manager who operates by mobile. I only manage to use 6GB in 1 week. All costs paid upfront, they won't let you use further if exceeded. :)

Thanks! This sounds like a decent option. We might need to call up the apartment managers too, as we'll be moving to a few locations.

Just to be sure, it's not those that are valid for 5 days, or 10 days only type? Is there any expiry date to when the Aussie calls can be made?

just pick up a corolla in melbourne

from budget ... mileage 6800km

yes budget ... i am sibei cheapskate

Did you pick up from the Southern Cross office?

They didn't have the car we booked 6 weeks earlier which was annoying and the excess was A$ 2500 which is the same for the car we've now hired from Budget in Adelaide.

In UK the excess for an Enterprise car was S$350.

Quite a difference.

For data only, maybe can use the Starhub Prepaid Happy Roam

http://www.starhub.com/personal/mobile/prepaid-plans/happy-roam.html

Using Telstra telco

7Days S$7- 1GB data

30Day S$15 - 2.4GB data

30Days S$20 - 3.6GB data

==================

Or buy OPTUS in Australia

500mb data = A$2 per day (If exceed 500MB, another A$2 deducted)

Actually the best roaming plan now is M1 data passport. Basically you pay $10 a month and you can use your local data for roaming. Can cancel anytime.
