I've not been to Kuantan but been hearing about this Resort. This is the description that I've gotten from the web:

"Bukit Gambang Resort City. BGRC, a resort located on the Gambang Interchange will be one of the biggest and important projects in the history of Kuantan. BGRC covers over 200 ha and will be developed over the next 10 years. Features include the water park, an adventure park, a forest park, global heritage resort villas to be developed based on a particular country theme and scenic ocean ville resort suites which are low-rise buildings based on various ocean themes such as Caribbean Bay Resort, Arabian Bay Resort, Andaman Lagoon Resort, Mediterranean Beach Resort and Hawaiian Beach Resort. Bukit Gambang Water Park spans across 60 acres. With the Children Fantasy Island ("penguin island"), special Kidz Zone, the Adventurous Typhoon River as well as a 1 kilometer long man-made sandy beach. Not to mention the family river raft rides and a 6-lane racer slides with a timing scoreboard. Attractions also include a 25,000 sq ft wave pool. If all goes well, I'll be at BGRC next week from Monday to Wed.

I would like to check with seasoned travellers, is Route 12 a better route than Route 3 to return home ?

I was thinking Route 3 is more scenic with the coastal view but could be a slower drive along the villages. And if it rains, the roads may be badly affected. Am I right ?

I am heading to Kuantan on Wed, thinking of taking Yong Peng/Segamat route but afraid of floods too. Hope weather will be fine for us people driving up.

I have just returned from Bukit Gambang Resort City, some half hour drive from Kuantan.

Opened sometime around mid this year.

Accomodation still smells new , furnishings are nicely done. Parquet type flooring.

What's available ?

Water Park - pretty fun. Not as big as sunway but plenty waterplay to make us stay for 6 hours.

Need to mention, the waves from the wavepool is strongest/biggest I've felt.

Swimming pool in the Resort.

Horse carriage ride. RM10 per person

Tram ride to and fro to Water Park. RM1 per person.

Paintball.

Horseriding.

Board Games

All Terrain Vehicle ride. etc etc

At night after dinner can engage in

Mini amusement park style games for the kids.

9pm daily Variety performance or Magic Show

I was worried it would rain and spoilt the programme.

It rained a little bit on our way there near sundown, but never lasted more than 10mins each time , via East Coast Highway. Otherwise the weather is perfectly fine and sunny.

Yes there were showers on our second day too , when we were at the Water Park but it drizzled for like a few minutes and then stopped. It repeated like 4 to 5 times during the Water Park outing from 11.30am to about 5.30pm. Apart from this series of short drizzle , the sun was out and sunny and we all had a tan. :D

Nope , no flood at all. We even drove by some parts of Route 3 on the way home, at it was clear.

We came from Cameron Highlands.

On the way home we took Route 3, up Route 63, Route 12 before joining the NSH at Yong Peng.

We took some 5.5 hours of driving to reach to reach Woodlands Customs, excluding 1 hour of break in between.

These numbers appear on Malaysia maps and GPS maps. They help to give precise indication/planning on the roads to take. Anyway, I'll still depend on my GPS to provide guidance.

I came home via the that way -> Segamat - Yong Peng.

I bet you can also exit the NSH at Yong Peng and head to Segamat and up to Bukit Gambang or Kuantan via Route 12. [flowerface]
