Hi gurus

But faced with so many type of leather.

Can someone explain to me which is real and which is fake?

There are many types of leather on the market. The three you mentioned, Montana, Napa, and Alcantara, refers to the location of the cows/bulls herds (except for Alcantara, more on that later).

Montana leather are gotten from herds in the state of Montana, USA. Napa leather are from herds in Napa Valley, CA, USA. Napa leather are considered to be better (softer, smoother), and hence more expensive. Montana leather is somewhat harder, and the texture is rougher (more grain).

Alcantara, is NOT leather. It is actually synthetic faux leather, and is made in Italy. Some people might prefer it as apparently it is easier to clean.

When you are buying leather, whether be it for seat wraps or for furniture, you should always look for the following :

Grade

Grain

Texture and Finish

It might be good to check the thickness of the leather too - people have inadvertently poked a hole in cheap, thin leather.

Most importantly - try out the leather, ask for a test seat and assess if you can sit in for long period of hours without feeling uncomfortable. Also, BUY WITHIN YOUR BUDGET!

Hope this helps.

Regards,
