Shull Turbocharged January 16, 2015 Share January 16, 2015 Dug out old thread. Same thing, toilet Cistern leaking. Problem is, my cistern is those designer brand (Gustavsberg) which the developer installed when the condo is built. Long story short, the authorised supplier charge a whopping $160 for a new set of mechanism. My mechanism is fine, it's the rubber seal which is leaky, but the seal is those ball type kind, which cannot be found in typical neighbourhood hardware shop. Any idea where can i find plumbing shops (other than the distributor) to buy the rubber seal?

Then do your own cut to size. $160 for the mechanism is kill man set fire. $200 onwards can get a brand new toilet bowl set (China brand of course).

Ender Hypersonic January 16, 2015 Share January 16, 2015 Most diy shop sells the mechanism for less than $20. Can change your self if you're a handy man, the plunger is cut to size to fit different cistern.
Alpha78 6th Gear January 16, 2015 Share January 16, 2015 stay condo must markup 50% more Bollocks man! I tried to source for replacement valve for my leaky toilet bowl, and the neighbourhood shop asked for $60 for the valve, some more it's the old fashioned lever type, not the newer press button type which is easy to find. Ended up I used silicone to "reconstruct" the valve seal rubber, and it lasted for quite a while more.
Kangadrool Supersonic January 16, 2015 Share January 16, 2015 (edited) Normally, it's the joint areas that is causing the leaking problem. For example, many char boh langs like to put those toilet cleaning chemicals/agents inside the cistern. This makes the storage too clean, As all the slimes are cleaned and flushed away, leaking will occur. In short, don't make it too clean since 99.99999999% of the cisterns are not transparent kind and you won't have the luxury to admire it's internals! (I have not seen a clear acrylic type before). What I do is use those white pipe tapes PTFE to seal the joint areas; and it works. Costs 40 cents per roll in neighbourhood hardware shops. Same analogy applies to car engines. Many people like to chemical flush their engines. DON'T!!! It will do more damage than good. Dug out old thread. Same thing, toilet Cistern leaking. Strat 6th Gear January 16, 2015 Share January 16, 2015 The seal is not flat kind.. rather it's round like a ball.. If i can DIY, i would've done it looong time ago.. looks like is a unique rubber part for your cistern you can bring this and try to ask Garlin (shop specialists in rubber seals) at Towner road. if they don't have, most likely you would need to buy the whole mechanism from the AD.. Volvobrick Hypersonic January 16, 2015 Share January 16, 2015 Leaking cistern is a more common problem than I thought! I have one leaking one-piece type for months.... still searching for the replacement part! And I can't swap out this bast@rd with after market system as it is one-piece design. Angchug 3rd Gear January 17, 2015 Share January 17, 2015 Mine is a Swiss brand and after 10 years started giving me problem. I went shopping looking for a replacement. OMG cost $1000++++ In the end I went to the hardware shop and bought a few cistern. Got a workshop to make me some plates. DIY and cost me only $37 per modification/bowl. No rocket science. Just DIY
Naimed 5th Gear January 18, 2015 Share January 18, 2015 The seal is not flat kind.. rather it's round like a ball.. If i can DIY, i would've done it looong time ago.. Tried to look for the Gustavsberg brand every where as well, even big distributors at IMM and Balestier don't carry it. Firstly, it depends on the water leak is inside the bowl (rubber seal) or externally (float). We have 2 cisterns leaking so the plumber change the float valve (Fluidmaster brand 400UK073 - direct replacement) for $90 each. He replaced the rubber seal with an older spare piece for free. DIY rubber seal can get for $12 at hardware shop, they come in multiple rubber rings/washers in different diameters to match the the shape of the original seal. ↡ Advertisement
