Knht Neutral Newbie September 28, 2009 Share September 28, 2009 Has anyone read Dan Brown's latest release? Just want to gauge if you share the same sentiment as me - i had finished reading over the weekend and found that with all the hype and anticipation after Da Vincci Code, this latest release is a big big disappointment......guess he ran out of inspirations and ideas after da vincci... he is probably just another one-hit-wonder author..... ↡ Advertisement
Genie47 1st Gear September 28, 2009 Share September 28, 2009 If you like crime and conspiracy, I suggest the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson. The first book is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Translation may be a little off due to it being a Swedish novel. This is followed by The Girl who played with fire then The girl who kicked the hornets nest. http://www.stieglarsson.com/Millennium-series BTW, Stieg Larsson died before the first book was published. He did a lot of research. I won't say much but there are Nazis, BDSM, sex slave trade, computer hacking etc. The first was made into a movie. The actress in the role of Lisbeth Salander kicks serious 4ss.
Ahtong 1st Gear September 28, 2009 Share September 28, 2009 Thanks. You have saved me some money. DVC and A&D have the same template so I decided to wait until reviews came out for TLS.
Topgun Neutral Newbie September 28, 2009 Share September 28, 2009 Saw the hardcover book in Popular but it's almost $50 Nowadays books are just so bloody expensive. I browsed the shelves and passed it 3x in the end decided not to buy until I read more reviews and get some feedback first
Vidz 6th Gear September 28, 2009 Share September 28, 2009 not surprisingly, because IMHO he is using controversial issues in Da Vincci Code to generate interest and reactions, blending and greying friction and non-friction. take that out of the equation, not much left. Ahtong 1st Gear September 28, 2009 Share September 28, 2009 (edited) Believe it or not, it is sometimes cheaper to buy books online. There is a series of reference guides I have been reading. If you buy it from a local bookshop, it is $40+, almost $50. When I checked eBay, it is around USD $12 with shipping included. It is also better to wait for the softcover to come out. That's what I did for the last Harry Potter. In fact I waited until I no longer felt the urge to buy it at all. Currently should be on promotion - I bought it for S$36 from MPH, comes with a free mug. Xtrocious 1st Gear September 28, 2009 Share September 28, 2009 Reading the e-book now 1/2 way only - not quite the page turner (scroller in my case) that I was expecting
Topgun Neutral Newbie September 28, 2009 Share September 28, 2009 Save yourself some money and join a library. Shouldn't say that really as libraries may then get overcrowded. It's great at the moment. I do. I visit the library very frequently But for new titles, you've to be very lucky to get them. It's like when there's a big movie, it's some time before the DVD is available for rent, and then you've to try your luck as they're always out
