I believe they will take a beautiful picture of your car if they detect a vehicle (or something..) moving past the gantry and no IU.

Twincharged

The missus went to do IU inspection yesterday and there was a long queue. Does the IU break down a lot these days ?

Now i heard the Vicom personal saying the I.U. are made in China, broke down easily,my car already using the 4th I.U. in 2 years..

My GPS navigation unit, my in-dash DVD player, my Blitz R-VIT DS, and I bet 90% of all car electronics these days in all cars are made in China. By their logic, they will also break down twice a year.

Wonder how much LTA $$$ went down with these inspections, and how much direct revenue went to companies like NETS, etc. from these broken cash cards and IU readers.

Since we are on the topic of IUs. When I was in Dubai, my friend showed me their version. It was just a card stuck on the windshield behind the rear view mirror. Not visible, no wires and probably RFID technology. You top up some account and it just deducts away. The gantry is also simpler. Our system is an eyesore and so archaic in comparision - even the new generation IU.

Probably similar to ETC in Japan and SmartTAG in Malaysia, but need to slow down to <40km/h to detect.

In Japan, though ETC reader is an open market, you can buy from many different manufacturers so you can choose what's best in the market. But they have toll gate to enforce it so its not likely for someone to drive through it w/o payment or with tampered reader.

Its not the same as the ETC. This one is more like the condo parking RFID, almost like a sticker on the glass. My friend say he tried all kinds of ways to try and beat it - fast, in between the lanes, etc but he surrender.
