Don't like the cars with fog lights on. It's not the glare that affects me, it's the fact that they're on even when there's absolutely NO NEED for that extra illumination!! Why?? Cannot see meh??

 

Seriously folks, if you are travelling on the NSHW or anywhere in Malaysia for that matter, then it's perfectly justified to have your fog lights on. But in Singapore? Why ah? Show-off that you've got fog lamps? Look fierce? Aren't you being silly? Think about it...

 

some roads with thick canopy overhead and dim yellow street lights, can be quite dark at nights, so I generally will turn on my fog lights when travelling along these roads/streets.

example: BKE (don't know why, I find BKE generally very dark at night compared to the rest of the expressway).

its still not dark enough to me.

 

but if u r driving along PIE near lornie exit during dawn, u may encounter some foggy condition. probably due to the vegetation along the road.

Hmmm...well if you say so. Maybe your eyes are not that sensitive to light, who can blame you? Cheers mate!

 

But I also feel that the BKE and any road here in Singapore, save for the tiny farm roads, are more than bright enough to be commutable using your headlights alone.

To me its useless here in Singapore and people who switch them on are just trying to show off. Don't tell me things like so that you can see better or other drivers will be more aware of you. I've driven overseas in thick fog and heavy snow storm and it's so bad that even fog lamps can't help cos I simply could not see anything....so bad that I had to drive in the middle of the road with my hazard lights on following the center white line and worse of all up the mountain. So I simply do not see any reason for anyone to use their fog lamps here especially for those who mis-align them on purpose to blind others. [thumbsdown]

it didn't occur to u that u are still alive today could be due to big trailers saw you with all your head/fog/hazard lights on?

every thing happened for a reason. so long, we arrive home safely.

That's because they're called FOGgies for a reason? The reason being that these lights are to be used only in adverse whether conditions namely when it's FOGGY!

 

Driven in Europe before? Turn on your foglights on a clear night and see what happens lah...

I'm just simply joining in the discussion the TS has raised here especially the part he asked for experiences and please take note that I mentioned especially the part where people mis-align their fog lamps on purpose to blind others. By the way it also didn't occur to you that Fog Lamps are originally invented to be used during foggy weather thats why they are called fog lamps. I don't have fog lamps on my car and I don't intend to fix it but yes I would agree with you that other things such as hazard lights may have been one of the reason why I'm still alive today. [cool]

Yup....thats why I was referring to those not properly aligned...sometimes its really glaring.

I notice there is an increasing trend in which driver switch on their fog lamps, and turn off their headlights. Is it considered "IN" thing to do? I must say such action is very disturbing to other road users.

Could these drivers be thinking that the smaller fog lights consume less power and thus less petrol? [lipsrsealed]

My beef is with people who turn on their REAR fog lights in clear weather. This confuses drivers with the brake lights. Rear fogs are supposed to be behind the driver (one side only). Some have put in an extra bulb as on the LHD version to have 2 rear fogs making the problem worse. Front fogs are supposed to shine down and spread to the side to prevent glare reflected on the driver (in a real fog/snowstorm) so they don't really bother much. If fact they glare less than normal driving lights. I think people's complaints here are due to these modified lighting and not factory fitted ones.
