Hermitage 1st Gear September 30, 2009 Share September 30, 2009 Don't like the cars with fog lights on. It's not the glare that affects me, it's the fact that they're on even when there's absolutely NO NEED for that extra illumination!! Why?? Cannot see meh?? Seriously folks, if you are travelling on the NSHW or anywhere in Malaysia for that matter, then it's perfectly justified to have your fog lights on. But in Singapore? Why ah? Show-off that you've got fog lamps? Look fierce? Aren't you being silly? Think about it... ↡ Advertisement
Puteh83 1st Gear September 30, 2009 Share September 30, 2009 If my full headlights are more glaring than my foglights... then how? my frd's car is such a case...
Contax 1st Gear September 30, 2009 Share September 30, 2009 TAXI - usually those older version ones will have extra glaring light and I always keep my sight out of them by changing lanes.............or did they adjust the angle higher so as to warn others that they are coming? they purposely one. If you notice , you will see that the 'misalign' headlight is usually on the car left side. I have ask one taxi uncle before , he said that is to 'see' the passenger 'clearly' ...dunno what exactly he mean by that though..
Alfc 5th Gear September 30, 2009 Share September 30, 2009 I dun really find stock fog lights blinding to the eyes (maybe to the heart??) cos they shine low. Hardly use them here anyways. It is really those misaligned lights that point up which are the real irritating ones to me.
Route88 2nd Gear September 30, 2009 Share September 30, 2009 Unless the owner put on HIDs..very blinding

I guess it just boils down to people's preferences. As long as it doesn't really affect me, it's ok.
Nicholas 5th Gear September 30, 2009 Share September 30, 2009 So far nobody mentioned the worst I've seen which is on fog lights only headlights turned off! What's the point...?????

Maybe that way easier to see potential customer trying to flag taxi at night? Left headlight closer to kerb side at the slower lane.
Amortifiedpenguin Clutched September 30, 2009 Share September 30, 2009 oh yes. i diy re-aligned my headlights already. made it point lower as the stock setting was too high. it was actually quite easy. 15 minutes, a screw driver a white wall and some friends to blind. Fog lights are situated lower, hence not irritating but some find it annoying that it's switched on here rather than in nsw/mudland. Don't know what's their beef.....except that it wears out faster. Main irritant are the taxis and those hid ones that are not aligned. Bo-pian when it comes to those trucks/containers that are glaring due to the height, not coz they're misaligned. Rev2redline Neutral Newbie September 30, 2009 Share September 30, 2009 Fog lamps are really unneccesary in sg.. It's also much smaller than the headlights and does not provide much illumination and makes it hard to see the cars especially when they're tailgating behind.. A lot of drivers also think it's cooler looking, but for me, I'll only use when I go up north especially in poorly lit roads.. I feel HID headlamps are more irritating.. Though they may be stock, road bumps would cause flashing blindness even when they have self-levelling mechanisms..
Icyfreakass 1st Gear September 30, 2009 Author Share September 30, 2009 Fog lights are not meant to be bright. Its meant to be in a slightly orange color to penetrate fog. But when some people replace those with white lights and turn them on for no particular reason at all, its rather blinding.
Seaweed 1st Gear September 30, 2009 Share September 30, 2009 actually fog light should be yellow and not white....yellow light then can penetrate fog....white light for show only....
GoodCar 4th Gear September 30, 2009 Share September 30, 2009 The only purpose of fog light is to be use during heavy fog or heavy rain. Fog light must also be installed one set in front and one set behind for its intented use. Driving in heavy fog is no joke, even with your fog light on, you can only see 2-3 metre infront and seeing the road only. It is better to turn your headlight off because the reflection from the headlight is very glaring. You must also drive very slow, in case you don't see the car infront because they didn't turn on their rear fog light.
Icyfreakass 1st Gear September 30, 2009 Author Share September 30, 2009 I heard somewhere that its an offense to on during clear weather. Is that true?
Ed2win2 Neutral Newbie September 30, 2009 Share September 30, 2009 According to LTA website, fog lamps can only be used in adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain or hazy weather. Use on fog lamps on a clear weather can subject up to $1k fine on 1st time offence. Then again, I dont think TP is enforcing this rule.
