Dunno Neutral Newbie September 25, 2009 Share September 25, 2009 It depends. When such things happen, the benefit of the doubt is always given to the maid. The employer is deemed "guilty" unless proven otherwise. Happened to a friend of mine, but not a case of maid abuse. More of maid sneaked out and created some trouble outside, the employer had to lose the deposits and pay a fine as well. Went to court no use, judge's verdict is in favour of the maid. So from then on, no more maids for him, once bitten twice shy.

Amortifiedpenguin Clutched September 25, 2009 Share September 25, 2009 translation please? i see something like hit the head, and something to do with hair and massage chair. 2 weeks sounds rather fair in addition to a fine and probably ban from hiring maids in the future. Garlic 1st Gear September 25, 2009 Share September 25, 2009 Any article? Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNew...ory_433769.html A WOMAN accused her maid of stealing food, made her kneel in front of her and wanted to know how much fruit she had eaten, a magistrate's court heard. Koh Siew Kiang, 42, became irate and accused Ms Kusmiati of lying when the Indonesian replied that member of the family had allowed her to eat the fruit. The operation controller then knocked the victim on the head with her knuckles, grabbed a chunk of her hair and pulled hard, causing the 23-year-old to lurch forward and hit her face on a nearby massage chair. The maid lost some hair as a result. On Thursday, Koh was sentenced to two weeks' jail after admitting to causing hurt to the victimat her home in Eunos Crescent on July 4 last year. The maid subsequently ran away as she could not take Koh's abusive behaviour any more. She had worked there for about a year. Pleading for leniency, Koh's lawyer, Mr Choo Si Sen, said his client had offered $1,500 compensation to the victim. who was Koh's third maid. He said it was true his client had reprimanded the maid in the hope that she could improve her attitude and work performance, but all her efforts to correct her proved futile. Koh, who was allowed to start her sentence on Oct 1, had four other charges considered, including one of opening the bathroom door and staring at the maid while she was naked and about to dress herself. She could have been jailed for up to three years and/or fined up to $7,500 for voluntarily causing hurt.
Tempus Neutral Newbie November 25, 2009 Share November 25, 2009 Abusing maids is not rite cause she's human too... but sometimes these maids also play pang, show attitude, create trouble. Give them 1 inch they want 1 yard kind of things.. And employers still have to tolerate these kind of things ? Ask yourself, at yr work place, if you show attitude to your boss, do work half fxxk, u think your boss will keep u ? give u bonus/increments ?? If maid then she should paid the price for her misdeed if is the employer the employer have to paid for his/her's. The law have to be fair to everyone. There are a few cases where the maid got away with minimal punishment even though the offence are quite serious. Employer will sure kenna jail if kenna charge with maid abuse, due to 'public interest'. ↡ Advertisement
