Too much were done to upkeep the sport at the expense of casual Joes...

Ticket prices were controlled to remain fairly high...Fair enough...

Next, comes everything else...Food, drinks, merchandise...and all the jigs...

 

What you had mentioned is sadly becoming the trend in sports around the world nowadays, including the English Premier League. Nobody cares about the average Joe now. Definitely not F1 which is all about glam.

for the walkabout tics, its quite true most ppl buy the tics, but any higher, i've heard so many friends getting free tics to grandstands etc. so other than tourists, most likely the locals are just getting free tics, give to friends or sell them.
