Has anyone repaired their Sunny folding mirror before? The right hand side mirror of my Sunny VIP cannot be folded. Thank you.

hi bro, does it response to the other switches controls? i.e. up down left right adjustment of the mirror?

Yes bro, the mirror still can move up down left right. Just that it cannot be folded.

bro, cant be repaired. Have to change the whole assembly or motor which isnt cheap.

And they do by pairs one.

Btw u extend ur COE?

Geez, that's crap.

I am thinking of extending since it's still running well.

Fcw75,

frankly ... if you encounter a good mechanic, he will offer to troubleshoot and do spot repairs.

from your description that :

i) the other mirror can fold

ii) the mirror that can't fold respond positively to up/down/left/right adjustment

It sounds to me to be more of a connection issue. The wiring of the mirror that cannot be folded may be loose, broken ...etc .. and it does look like an isolated parallel wiring

Hi Alechi,

Thanks for the advice. Would you know of any good mechanic that can bother to troubleshoot?

Yep, you described correctly abt the situation. It can be folded sometimes and I can hear the motor moving.

hi bro, then think is a simple repair. Either lose wiring or broken internal parts. Need to open up and see.

Some mechanics may keep accident claim (appearance abit scratched but internally working ones) units. Then you can have it spot repair. Will be cheaper. My mechanic does it for my rear light assembly this way.

Also, you can source for 2nd hand ones. A resourceful mechanic should be able to find for you.

Lastly, if need buy new, can buy one unit only no need buy 1 pair lah.

But first need to check what is broken.

Cheers.

Hi Fcw75,

frankly, best to call up workshops, describe the situation, and see if they willing to do, and for how much. don't want a situation whereby they willing to do, but then charge exorbitant fees. must make sure they don't charge for basic assessment. some workshops put on a show to check, and then say cannot, must change everything - if don't change, also must pay for assessment.

unfortunately, mechanic i know only specialise in car air-cons ... the rest of the areas are just average - better not recommend.

Yup. It's hardy car. [thumbsup]

Btw i was quoted $500+ for a set inclusive of mirror cover.

For Toyota, its $800+ for a set by a stockist.

I heard agent wanted to charge a guy $2K for Camry's folding mirrors. Same issue. [dizzy]

Really? Will get oil filter from Teck Guan. I always compare prices and availability between Fong Tat and Teck Guan since they are nearby each other.

Ah, I was still thinking of trying N16 one...guess can give up that option.

Manually fold ley chey lah, somemore it will become very loose. So I just leave it unfolded. [laugh]
